Authorities: Santa Monica gunman killed at least 6 before being shot to death by police

Source: Washington Post

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — A gunman with an assault-style rifle killed at least six people in Santa Monica on Friday before police shot him to death in a gunfight in the Santa Monica College library, authorities said.

Santa Monica Police Chief Jacqueline Seabrooks told reporters the rampage began at a house in the coastal city before the gunman, dressed all in black, made his way to Santa Monica College..

Seabrooks said he killed two people in the house, which caught fire, two more people as he moved several blocks toward the campus, and then two more on campus.

He entered the library and fired on other people but didn’t hit them, Seabrooks said.

89.9 FM in SoCal is based there. One employee encountered the shooter thinking he was a swat team member owing to his jack boots, black clothes and assault weapon in his arms while strolling casually through the corridors. They had a casual exchange. Chilling. Somebody else working for the station encountered him too. He let them all go without incident.

All this going on while Obama flew in and out of that area to gather funds and meet with the president of China in Palm Springs. He must think he's Joe Btfsplk with the rain cloud hanging round his head.

it was not retroactive. I bet this rifle would have been perfectly legal even with a national AWB - California has some of the strictest gun laws in America.

By closing the gun show loophole I am assuming you really mean universal background checks - which is definitely something we need.

Semiautomatics that can take 30 round mags, like the gun the Tuscon killer used, should be illegal for civilian possession. I am fine with semiautomatics that have a fixed mag of no more than 10 rounds.

I know you keeping your guns has never been your concern. That is why the gunners' hair on fire assertions that the "gun grabbers" are about to take everyone's guns is so disingenuous and cynical.

But since your ultimate desire is to ban guns, why are you surprised that gun owners are not willing to give an inch? Perhaps if controllers explicitly give up on their desires to ban guns then gun owners will be willing to work with you on other gun control issues.

does she lack the courage to say what she really feels? Has she made the political calculation that hers is not a main stream view? Is she merely going through the motions to placate a noisy constituency?

The fact of the matter is that going back to 1994 no one has propose gun control legislation that would really ban assault weapons. Hell, Feinstein's legislation specifically legalizes non-military style semiautomatic rifles that are just as lethal as the rifles they want to ban - they just have wooden furniture instead of plastic and steel.

Anther is split personality, 90% are female. It is much rarer in males (Through NOT unheard of). Furthermore the multiple personality people, an even RARER situation are almost all female (most people with split personalities, only have two personalities, but if they add a third, fourth, firth and even more personalities will then appear. In cases of Multiple personalities it seems to be a coping skill).

I bring up split personalities for it seems to be how some women handle stressful situations in the lives. Males tend to act out physically. It is a difference between the sexes. Men tend to opt for violence, women tend to internalize when facing stress.

Gunman in California killing spree had prior brush with law
Reuters
By Dana Feldman | Reuters – 22 minutes ago.

By Dana Feldman

SANTA MONICA, California (Reuters) - The gunman who killed four people in a shooting rampage in Santa Monica before he was slain by police at a community college in the California seaside town was once a student there and had a brush with the law several years ago as a teenager, police said on Saturday.

Santa Monica Police Chief Jacqueline Seabrooks also revealed that several students at the college survived Friday's shootings by hiding in an interior room of the library and piling up heavy objects against the door as the gunman fired through the walls at them.

Seabrooks detailed how the gunman, after killing two people identified by a law enforcement source as his father and brother and apparently setting their house on fire, went on to carjack a woman's automobile, ordering her at gunpoint to drive him from place to place as he fired at other individuals.

That woman escaped unharmed, police said.

But two other people died - one of them a college employee shot while driving a sport utility vehicle in a school parking lot, and the other a woman gunned down outside the library at Santa Monica College.
