Belgian Man Killed in Fighting in Syria: Reports

Source: Daily Star (Lebanon)

BRUSSELS: A young Belgian man has been killed in Syria while fighting for an Islamist group and his brother was arrested on his return home from the war-stricken country, newspapers said Monday. Belgian authorities and Islamic groups have become increasingly concerned about a growing number of young men leaving to fight in Syria against the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, some of whom are suspected of war crimes.

Tarik Taketloune, 20, a car mechanic from Vilvorde, a suburb of Brussels, was shot in the head and killed on Friday as he slept in a house near Aleppo, the Flemish newspaper Het Nieuwsbald said, quoting his father. He may have been shot by a fellow fighter after saying he wanted to go home, his father said.

The house was occupied by members of Sharia4Belgium, an Islamist group which has sent several young men to fight in Syria. Sharia4Belgium has formed its own brigade which is under the command of the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Nusra front.

Separately Hussein Elouassaki, 22, who is regarded as the leader of the Belgian fighters in Syria, said in a conversation recorded by police that he had slit the throat of a Syrian soldier, according to the reports. He may also be among a group of men speaking in Flemish and French who feature in a recent video of a man being decapitated with a knife, the newspapers said. His younger brother Hakim Elouassaki, 21, meanwhile told his girlfriend that he had shot a prisoner in cold blood, the reports said.

These Belgian jihadis sound like really charming fellows. The one who was killed was apparently killed by his fellows because he wanted to go home. The others brag about various atrocities they've committed. That last paragraph above is a real doozy.

heard about Belgians fighting in Syria from the sources, I'm monitoring. I've also read about them cutting off the heads of Syrian soldiers. The Syrian Army is getting ready to take a major offensive in Aleppo, just like they did Qusair, and the opposition knows it.

I will imagine they will find atrocities on civilians just like they found Qusair by Islamic extremists. They have not yet begun an attack on Aleppo, but I just learned the Human Observatory for the opposition reported Islamist rebels killing a fifteen year old boy in front of his parents for blasphemy. They even posted a picture of the multilated kid online to the BBC.

Somebody registered a sharia4Belgium.com web site, but apparently let the domain name lapse.

Here's the Wikipedia entry on the group: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharia4Belgium

They sound like a real jolly bunch. Maybe better if they all go off to Syria and martyr themselves.

the news about the rebels killing kids, using chemical weapons , etc.

OBama has been right so far in not arming them and hopefully they stick to it.
