New NRA Talking Point: Banning Assault Weapons Is Just Like Racial Discrimination

January 4, 2013 TIMOTHY JOHNSON

Former National Rifle Association president Marion Hammer compared a proposal by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) to ban assault weapons to racial discrimination. According to Hammer, "banning people and things because of the way they look went out a long time ago. But here they are again. The color of a gun. The way it looks. It's just bad politics."

Hammer's comparison came during a discussion on NRA News about Sen. Feinstein's plans to introduce legislation to ban assault weapons during the new Congress. Hammer warned that the United States government could engage in firearm confiscation "in order to control the masses."

4 dead total. the beat goes on and on and on, and Newtown proved that no shooting is horrific enough to change our liberal gun laws one whit.

anytime, anyplace, you could be caught in the crossfire. because freedom.

in order for an event to qualify for federal assistance.

The previous threshold was four murders, so three murders plus a suicide would not have counted.

So I guess federal investigatory assistance could still be available if a criminal shot at 3+ people with the intent of killing them, or wounded 3+ people, or so on.

But putting a number on 'mass' is interesting in a statistical sense, as long as changes to that number are accounted for in any analysis.

(And FYI, I looked with particular care to determine which January and which President you were referring to... )
