Rick Perry Vetoes Texas Equal Pay Bill

Source: Huffington Post

WASHINGTON -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) has vetoed a bill meant to prevent wage discrimination against women.

An aide to state Rep. Senfronia Thompson (D), who authored the equal pay bill, HB 950, said Perry's office called on Friday to say he had vetoed it. State Sen. Wendy Davis (D), who introduced the Senate version of the legislation, told the Texas Tribune that she had received the same call.

In a statement, Thompson said she was "deeply disappointed" and "heartbroken."

"Women will still have to struggle to receive their equal pay for their equal work," she said.

And why do I get the sinking feeling he's gonna keep getting re-elected 'til he freaking dies?

The only thing I can figure that Texans get from keeping this idiot in office is the charge some of them(not all, thank God) get out of saying "fuck you!" to the rest of the country and to reality. Jesus, what did reality and the rest of us ever do to THEM?

He just proved it again. The anti-women, anti-immigration, anti-choice, anti-science. The only thing they're for is transvaginal ultrasound, guns, oil and war.

8. According to the link, he claimed it duplicated federal law.

Although THIS legislation, unlike the Lilly Ledbetter law, would allow to sue in state court rather than forcing them into federal court-thus making legal action more affordable for those needing to file it

But with Perry, the true motivation is always "Because I can, and you can't stop me, so kiss my brown part".

Rick Perry: Outlawing All Access To Abortion Is ‘My Goal’

By Tara Culp-Ressler on Dec 11, 2012 at 5:50 pm

"...To be clear, my goal, and the goal of many of those joining me here today, is to make abortion, at any stage, a thing of the past. While Roe v. Wade prevents us from taking that step, it does allow states to do some things to protect life if they can show there is a compelling state interest. I don’t think there is any issue that better fits the definition of ‘compelling state interest’ than preventing the suffering of our state’s unborn. [...]

Again, the ideal world is a world without abortion. Until then, however, we will continue to pass laws to ensure abortions are as rare as possible under existing law."

Perry does not support legal abortion access for women who have become impregnated from rape or incest, a far-right position that cost several anti-choice candidates their seats in last month’s election.

The governor has already taken significant steps toward accomplishing his goal in Texas. He has signed a bill requiring women seeking abortions to undergo a mandatory ultrasound — the same type of legislation that the Oklahoma Supreme Court recently ruled unconstitutional because it goes too far to restrict women’s right to legal abortion under Roe v. Wade — and is working hard to defund the Planned Parenthood clinics that provide reproductive services to low-income women across the state.

Obama fought back on this, but you can see what Perry's goals are. What difference does equal pay mean to a housewife - who's not paid anyway. Perry will ensure they stay pregnant:
