AP SOURCES: 4 US TROOPS KILLED IN AFGHANISTAN

WASHINGTON (AP) — Defense officials say four U.S. troops were killed Tuesday at or near Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan.

Officials say the four were killed by indirect fire, likely a mortar or rocket, but they had no other details.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to provide details on the deaths.

The attack comes as U.S. and allied forces formally handed over control of the country's security to the Afghan army and police in a ceremony in Kabul. The transition to Afghan-led security means U.S. and other foreign combat troops will not be directly carrying the fight to the insurgency, but will advise and back up the Afghan forces as needed with air support and medical evacuations.

2. I'm gonna share a little bit here

because my husband is out of town & these stories always rattle us. We understand why they haven't released names yet, so now it's a waiting game to find out if it is one of our friends or worse one of our Soldiers. This happened almost exactly a year ago to me.

I say it's worse then because when we have Soldiers some of them are very young & in some aspects we end up somewhat raising them. It's not just a job where you get to say bye at 5 and that's the end of it. We get the responsibility of chewing their ass when they come & tell you the girl they met 2 weeks ago is now pregnant & they didn't wear protection. We get to teach them the importance of paying their bills on time & dealing with the bs right next to them when our command finds out they still didn't do it. We watch them start out a clueless little Privates who can barely get to formation on time & we teach them how to handle their business both as an individual & a Soldier.

Over the years we have suffered our fair share of losses and have had to go to way to many services or had to cope on our own downrange in our own ways. But nothing will ever make any the demons go away or make hearing this any easier no matter how much we want them to.
