Bill would force ALEC to disclose corporate contributors
http://www.politiscoop.com/us-politics/wisconsin-politics/736-bill-would-force-alec-to-disclose-corporate-contributors.htmlMADISON Today, Democratic legislators formally submitted a bill for introduction that would clamp down on special interest organizations that write bills for legislators.
Recently, the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) has drawn criticism for acting as lobbyists for corporate legislation while being exempted from registering as a lobbying group with the Government Accountability Board. Many ALEC bills became law this session, including several of Governor Walkers special session bills that made it harder for victims to sue corporations for wrongdoing.
Last August, I infiltrated the ALEC convention and got a first-hand look at what they are up to, said Pocan. ALEC is like a speed dating service for lonely legislators and corporate executives. The corporations write bills and legislators sign their names to the bills. In the end, were stuck with bad laws and nobody knows where they came from.

(155 posts)Thank you, Mark Pocan! I have to give you a lot of credit for getting down in the swill. Hope you managed to smile and shower afterwards.
I hope that legislators in other states follow your example, FAST, to end the onslaught of pre-packaged, lockstep right wing legislation. It's a concept worthy of emulation by leftists, but may be unnecessary since they think for themselves. Duh.
Thinking for themselves is sort of a novel habit for those left wing pinkos, given that those tea partying "liberty seekers" don't mind following the ALEC dictates.
We already know that the right wing trumps up (ah, well, probably pun intended) "problems" to legislate against, like the phony "voter fraud" problem designed to disenfranchise elderly, student, poor and minority voters, who often vote Democratic.
Odd that the bastions of "liberty" move in lockstep...maybe they only aspire to be bastions of liberty.
