Rolling Stones set stage alight in Glastonbury debut

The Rolling Stones lived up to their reputation as one of the greatest rock'n'roll bands when they played to more than 100,000 revelers on Saturday during their first performance at Glastonbury, the world's best-known music festival.
Despite an average age of 69, the four band members strutted, strummed and shrieked their way through a set lasting over two hours that began with "Jumping' Jack Flash" and ended with fireworks exploding off the stage during "Satisfaction".
The crowd cheered and sang along as the band that celebrated 50 years in the music business last year rocked through a playlist of old and new hits while security staff tried to block entry to the overcrowded field.
"It's great to be here doing this festival. After all these years they have finally gotten around to asking us," said rubber-lipped frontman Mick Jagger, who turns 70 next month.

They're just the best at what they do.

I saw them in 1997 in Maryland. Good concert, but "Gimme Shelter" with Lisa Fischer was worth the whole ticket price.

It's really sad to see them go out like this.
Thankfully, we can still remember them this way:

(32,012 posts)The Stones weren't charging $600 a ticket. Resellers do that -- which I'm sure you know. The Stones have put out new material but at concerns they are going to play crowd favorites -- as they should.

(42,239 posts)The Rolling Stones' hit-packed Glastonbury debut has been hailed as "the high spot of 43 years" of the festival by organiser Michael Eavis.
The band opened with Jumpin' Jack Flash, with Mick Jagger prowling the stage in a green sequinned jacket.
He repeatedly thanked the crowd and, after It's Only Rock 'N' Roll (But I Like It), joked organisers had "finally got round to asking us" to play.
Tens of thousands of fans cheered on the two-hour set featuring 20 songs.
