Rolling Stones set stage alight in Glastonbury debut

Source: REUTERS

The Rolling Stones lived up to their reputation as one of the greatest rock'n'roll bands when they played to more than 100,000 revelers on Saturday during their first performance at Glastonbury, the world's best-known music festival.

Despite an average age of 69, the four band members strutted, strummed and shrieked their way through a set lasting over two hours that began with "Jumping' Jack Flash" and ended with fireworks exploding off the stage during "Satisfaction".

The crowd cheered and sang along as the band that celebrated 50 years in the music business last year rocked through a playlist of old and new hits while security staff tried to block entry to the overcrowded field.

"It's great to be here doing this festival. After all these years they have finally gotten around to asking us," said rubber-lipped frontman Mick Jagger, who turns 70 next month.

And they still put out more energy than bands a third their age. Jagger especially.

They're just the best at what they do.

I hope they give it a go at least once more.

I saw them in 1997 in Maryland. Good concert, but "Gimme Shelter" with Lisa Fischer was worth the whole ticket price.

6. Did Mick find a way to price gouge the entire festival crowd?

ccharging $600-a-ticket for seats for their latest tour, combined with guest appearances from nu-Nashville pop-"country" dreck Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood, and he lack of recording any new material have tuned this once great band into a joke.

It's really sad to see them go out like this.

Thankfully, we can still remember them this way:

who also happen to be the land owners. Tickets are £216 inc booking fee and postage and cover the entire 5 day event. Children under the age of 12 go in free - many treat Glastonbury as a family event.

Glastonbury 2014 will take place from Wed 25th June to Sunday 29th June. Tickets will go on sale in October 2013. You can register to be able to buy a ticket here. http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/information/tickets/ It sells out every year.

The Stones weren't charging $600 a ticket. Resellers do that -- which I'm sure you know. The Stones have put out new material but at concerns they are going to play crowd favorites -- as they should.

9. Glastonbury Festival: Rolling Stones make debut
Sun Jun 30, 2013, 05:36 AM
Jun 2013

The Rolling Stones' hit-packed Glastonbury debut has been hailed as "the high spot of 43 years" of the festival by organiser Michael Eavis.

The band opened with Jumpin' Jack Flash, with Mick Jagger prowling the stage in a green sequinned jacket.

He repeatedly thanked the crowd and, after It's Only Rock 'N' Roll (But I Like It), joked organisers had "finally got round to asking us" to play.

Tens of thousands of fans cheered on the two-hour set featuring 20 songs.
