Wisconsin Gov. Signs Abortion Bill Requiring Ultrasound

Source: Associated Press

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Gov. Scott Walker quietly signed a contentious Republican bill Friday that would require women seeking abortions to undergo an ultrasound and ban doctors who lack admitting privileges at nearby hospitals from performing the procedures.

Opponents contend legislators shouldn't force women to undergo any medical procedure and the bill will force at least two abortion clinics where providers lack admitting privileges to shut their doors.

The Republican-controlled Legislature passed the bill in mid-June. Walker, a Republican, could have chosen to sign it at any time since then but decided to do it on Friday in the middle of the long 4th of July holiday weekend. The measure's opponents accused him of trying to bury news of the signing.

"That's his prerogative. He's the governor," said Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin attorney Lester Pines. "But he's not going to win a profile in courage award."

Who's really behind all this insanity? I didn't think the Koch brothers were that involved in social issues - just polluting the nation, voter ID and that kind of thing.

I wonder if it's as much religious extremist as it is about controlling women.

Wisconsin used to be a blue state. Not much anymore, I fear.

Without exception every one was a religious extremist christian nutcase.

I don't think it's about sexism anymore, we have a problem with fundamentalists, both genders.

Wisconsin governor signs into law new abortion restrictions
Source: Reuters - Fri, 5 Jul 2013 07:45 PM
Author: Reuters

MILWAUKEE, July 5 (Reuters) - Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker on Friday signed into law new abortion restrictions that opponents said could lead to the closing of two of the state's four abortion clinics.

Walker's office said in an emailed statement that he signed the law requiring women to undergo an ultrasound before they get an abortion. It also requires doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of their clinics.

According to Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin and Affiliated Medical Services, which are the state's two abortion providers, the law will force the closing of abortion clinics in Appleton and Milwaukee because doctors there do not have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital.

The two providers said on Friday they will file a lawsuit in federal court challenging the constitutionality of the law.

Wisconsin is the third state this week to move toward more restrictions on abortion after a Texas House committee and the North Carolina Senate both approved measures earlier in the week.

the man is a sick tyrant - doesn't live in the gov mansion - but the little (I mean big and over weight) wife takes her laundry to the mansion via a limo at taxpayer expense. Fires the long time cooks and is insisting on a makeover in the mansion kitchen. She has a shredding party at the mansion - wonder what she shredded. Both of them are unfit for Wisconsin. I so despise this POS.

When it's time for the ultrasound or transvaginal snooping device or whatever, go to the appointment acting like anybody else.

Then, when they show the image of the fetus, the woman should scream hysterically, "Oh my God, what is that thing! Get it out of me!! GET IT THE FUCK OUT OF ME!!" Then run crying out of the office.

The reason laws like this are passed is that these fundies think seeing the fetus will make women decide against abortions. If women make fundies think that seeing the fetus will INCREASE the likelihood of a woman having an abortion because she's frightened by the sight of the fetus...they would have to rethink that particular tactic.

(This would be an especially awesome tactic at those fundie "crisis centers", where they pressure women into not getting an abortion until it's too late. Imagine the stress of going to work each day, not knowing if you're going to be dealing with a frightened, hysterical woman!)

I know it wouldn't stop anti-abortionists, but it would at least make them ditch the part about making women pay the additional expense of viewing the fetus.

Are RepUGLYs in Wisconsin copying those in Oklahoma? Sally should sue!

(Any resemblance to Rep. Sally Kern (R - Oklahoma) is purely intentional.)
