UPDATE: Child shot in head watching fireworks has died

Source: WTVR 6 - Richmond VA T.V. station

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. (WTVR) – The seven-year-old boy shot in head by a stray bullet Thursday night has died, Chesterfield Police said. Police said Brendon Mackey, 7, was walking with his father in the parking lot of the Boathouse Restaurant in Midlothian about 9 p.m. Thursday when he was shot. The father and son were there to watch some nearby fireworks.

“A large crowd had been gathering over by the reservoir to watch fireworks and a young boy, seven years old, was walking through the parking lot with his dad. He was a few step behind his dad and he [the boy] fell to the ground,” Chesterfield Police Capt. Brad Badgerow said. “Initially they thought he was just passed out. They saw some blood. They thought he may have hit his head.”

Police said it is unlikely that the shot was intentionally fired at the boy, and that the bullet likely came from a gun fired off the premises.

Police asked anyone who was firing a gun or knew of someone firing a gun within five miles of Swift Creek Reservoir to call Chesterfield County Police Department

to face responsibility in these cases.

I know gunners, it doesn't work in all cases. But it might help authorities catch whoever killed this innocent kid.

Lots of good gun safety ideas are opposed by gun humpers because "it won't work" when in fact it would work in enough cases to save some lives, even if not in every case.

F*ckers.

    And THAT my friend, is what truly scares the shit out of the nuts.
  • They KNOW too many "legitimate" gun owners are less than responsible with their weapons;
  • They KNOW too many "legitimate" gun owners use their guns illegally;
  • They KNOW too many "legitimate" gun owners use their guns for the specific purpose of law breaking; and
  • They know, that if the true figures on how much gun crime is NOT committed by those recognised as criminal, but by supposed law abiding citizens, the outcry might rise to a level sufficient to support a repeal or significant modification to the second amendment.

There needs to be more publicity and education around what happens when you shoot a bullet into the air.

I know, I know.....but some people don't think it through. What does it hurt to remind them?

there is a complete lack of regard for common sense and national security. I fear Dick Cheney and Dickish Limbaugh have won the day. Their long range plan to turn us into a nation of angry victims under the thumb of the wealthy is under way and irreversible.

I hate Snowden. I hate guns. And I hate what both have done to the slim chance we had to hold back the power block from monopolizing the American Dream. And I've got to live the American Nightmare because I remember what we once were and can't understand how this happened.

Tear me apart. I don't care. Put me out of my misery.

It must have come from quite a distance since it did not go through the roof, but it did leave a small dent. It could have just as easily hit my head, since I was standing next to my car...

There are too many dipsticks out there playing around with guns while they're drinking,or
just being irresponsible with a LETHAL WEAPON.

Maybe you can't fix stupidity, but stupidity could go to jail for a long time.
