Travis, 54, was admitted to an unidentified Texas hospital on Sunday because of complications related to his "recently acquired viral cardiomyopathy," Travis spokesman Kirt Webster said in a written statement.

It is not necessarily caused by drinking or other "bad" behaviors.

A person can get this from something as simple as the flu virus.

I had it and it led to congestive heart failure.

and alcoholism leads to a weakened immune system, which doesn't help one bit. Hopefully he gets over this- not a big country guy, but always enjoyed his voice.

It happened to me as well, Yavapai. I was never a smoker, drinker or abuser of drugs. The doctor's said it was a virus.

done by his urologist. Some blood vessels were broken and because my dad has artificial knees, anytime he has bleeding like that he is supposed to take some antibiotics. (He takes amoxicillin before he sees his dentist.) Bacteria from that break in his urinary tract got into my dad's bloodstream. He went on heavy doses of IV antibiotics and we thought he beat the infection. Three months later they had to put in a new heart valve, but now 3-1/2 years later he is doing fine.

I hope Randy Travis is as lucky.
