Gohmert repeatedly shouts ‘Objection!’ to silence claims food stamp cuts hurt hungry families

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) on Thursday objected over and over again in order to keep statements out of the congressional record that accused Republicans of hurting working families by taking food stamps out of the farm bill.

Before a vote could be taken on the Republican farm bill that drops the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) — or food stamps — Democrats attempted to voice their unhappiness by inserting statements into the record.

“Mr. Speaker, I ask unanimous consent to revise and extend my remarks in strong opposition to the farm bill rule and the underlying bill because it will increase hunger in America,” Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) said.

Although requests to “revise and extend” remarks are routine, Gohmert immediate shouted, “Objection!”

But any motion to "revise and extend" anything in the Congressional Record should be met with immediate tasing and revocation of bathroom break privileges for at least a month. On the second offense during a term, in addition it means you must fly tourist class on all flights and be searched or patted down as a regular tourist, and are not allowed to use any military plane unless you have joined the military and are using it under orders. The third attempt to use it will result in all of the above and the requirement that you be present for any pro forma sessions of the Senate with your cell phone in airplane mode and your aides on leave. If you're a Representative, you have to sit in the viewing gallery.

Or they should establish a "Congressional Transcript" which will serve as a record of what transpired and not a record of what members wish had transpired. Any further reference to the Congressional Record would then have to have the annotation, "which may bear little or no resemblance to the truth."
