Spitzer says he exceeded signature requirement for NYC ballot

Source: CNN

Former Gov. Eliot Spitzer said he expects to be on a New York primary ballot in September after a last-minute signature collection blitz ended Thursday.

“Against the odds and all predictions - and in light of some who tried to thwart the effort - I am pleased to announce that we have collected more than 27,000 signatures in four days,” Spitzer said on his official Twitter account.

“I want to thank those who assisted with this effort and the New Yorkers who signed these petitions. I pledge to stand with you against the special interests and on the crucial issues.”

The signatures collected were well over the 3,750 need to be put on the ballot.

He never would have been thrown out of office if he were a Republican
protecting Wall Street because his secrets would have been used to
control him, in my view anyway.

There is seriously support for him here? I've got ZERO problem with him hiring sex workers (I think prostitution should be legal. In fact, I think it's unconstitutional and got a case dismissed because the Prosecution was afraid of that argument). But he PROSECUTED these women.

He treats tosses women in prison for sex work and yet he hires them????

This man is central casting for Teabag behavior. It is horrifying to me that anyone can vote for him. I guess you are big Sen Vitter supporters then?

I am stunned at some of what I am reading here.

Spitzer has done outstanding work.

And he has done time out of politics for awhile. If he wants to get back on it, let him. We can use more of him, and at least he admitted it and left politics, unlike many Republicans we know.

He is a hypocrite of grand proportion whose stripes haven't changed. he should never hold office again. Ever. Your argument is that of a TeaBag supporting Vitter.

Do all the "shutups" and +1s you want, but you are just another side of the same TeaBag coin and that is sad.

I agree that Spitzer was nothing but a jerk to do what he did re: prostitution but he was an excellent AG in NY, he's stayed out of the limelight for 5 yrs. and has every right to run for office again.

Calling people names like "teabaggers supporting Vitter" is just absurd and and supplies no evidence to your argument. It just turns people off and causes them to wonder who you really are---perhaps someone AG Spitzer prosecuted for good reason, perhaps?

but never lived in NYC.

How common is it to have this position elected, instead, of say, appointed. Or is a comptroller often combined with a treasurer?

Even then, I have voted for a county treasurer in California, but never for a city.
