Elon Musk Posts Plan to Annouce Hyperloop Transit System
Source: Bloomberg
Elon Musk, chief executive officer of electric vehicle maker Tesla Motors Inc., will unveil designs for a solar-powered inter-city passenger transport system by Aug. 12.
The technology behind the system will be a breakthrough and Musk will be happy to work with the right partners, Musk said in Twitter posts today. Musk is seeking critical feedback on the system and will publish it as open source, according to the tweets.
Musk previously said that the so-called Hyperloop would be twice as fast as airplane travel and cheaper than high-speed rail. Musk is the chairman of SolarCity Corp. (SCTY), the rooftop power producer thats more than quadrupled in value this year.

(769 posts)up there with Nikola Tesla and Leonardo DaVinci. This world need Elon Musk more than we all would like to admit. If the Republicans and Big Oil attempt to discredit him or stop him from doing his stuffs, Elon Musk will be their biggest nightmare, a version from Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged's John Galt against the wealth people and incompetent governments. Its because they knows that most of people are already behind Elon Musk.

Musk's track record so far is pretty good. The Tesla is an amazing vehicle. Musk's space corporation also seems to be on its way to becoming a viable transport option.
I did not know about SolarCity, have to look into it.
I look forward to this announcement.

(29,414 posts)Because I've seen other mass-transit systems proposed in the past (SkyTran, HyRail) that never "got off the ground" so to speak. Here's a nice site detailing many of these brilliant ideas that never seemed to come to fruition, for whatever reason, in addition to those that are in used or will be built:
Supported Vehicles
Suspended Vehicles
Also, one of the biggest problems with these personal public transport pods that I've seen mentioned elsewhere is on the subject of vandalism. I hope they have something in mind for either preventing that or holding people when caught in the act (such as through surveillance cameras.)

if this method of transport will be popular.
"The system will use pods about 2 meters (6.6 feet) in diameter"
