Poll: Alaska Republicans Want Palin In 2014 Senate Race

Source: TPM

There are plenty who doubt that Sarah Palin will actually run for U.S. Senate in Alaska next year, but a survey from Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling released Tuesday suggested that the Republican nomination may be hers if she wants it.

Thirty-six percent of GOP primary voters in Alaska said they'd back the former half-term governor, with 26 percent saying they would support Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell (R). Dan Sullivan, the mayor of Anchorage, Alaska, garnered the support of 15 percent of primary voters, while Joe Miller, a tea party favorite who had the backing of Palin in the 2010 Senate race, picked up only 12 percent support.

A Palin nomination could jeopardize the GOP's chances in a race identified as one of the party's best pick-up opportunities in 2014, the poll found. With 58 percent of Alaska voters saying they have an unfavorable opinion of her, Palin trailed incumbent Sen. Mark Begich (D-AK) by 12 points in a hypothetical general election matchup.

The poll indicated that Treadwell, who launched his campaign last month, would give the Republicans the best chance in a general election, with Begich holding only a 4-point edge over the Republican. Voters are split on Begich, according to the poll: 42 percent said they approve of the Democrat's job performance while 41 percent said they disapprove.

I'd joke that it's due to her crappy makeup job, but whatever the reason, it's there. I guess ignorance *isn't* bliss.

That's why she lost Minnesota and Wisconsin in 2008, and almost lost North and South Dakota. Mrs. Halverson is that crabby woman in the Lutheran Women's Group or PTA who tells everybody how to live, and lets her own kids run wild. She tells everybody else they have to help out, and never does herself.

I don't get the logic about wanting to rehire someone to represent you in government when they quit the last job you hired them to do.

In the time she quit her job she's done nothing to show that she has any greater of a grasp on issues that matter than she did during the 2008 campaign. If Alaska wants her to represent them they can elect her to state or local government. There's no excuse for them making the rest of the country have to suffer this ego-maniac's perpetual need for attention.

out the stats because it is too much of an outlier for the rest of the repug party.

Alaskan repugs are so dumb, that by just being dumb it automatically puts them in charge. The rest are too dumb to know the leader is dumb.

Alaskan repugs are so dumb, they think the sun shining all summer long is from the southern repugs forgetting to turn off their lights at night.

Alaskan repugs are so dumb...

I don't think the poll result would have been the same a couple of years ago. We're dealing with a resurgence of conservative ideology in reaction to very little liberal progress. Yes, we are making progress in terms of gay marriage/gay rights but in so many other areas things are already too conservative.

Begich is going to have a tough re-election campaign if he faces a moderate. Someone on the extreme side like Palin or Joe Miller would help ensure Begich's re-election

Raising all the necessary money for campaigns is work, day in and day out, and Palin is the opposite of work.

On Fox, she only has to sit in the make-up chair and talk sometimes. She'll tease the GOP just long enough to sell another book, then return to her regularly scheduled nothing.
