Ted Cruz: ‘Why is President Obama threatening to shut down the federal government?’

Source: Raw Story

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Tuesday argued that President Barack Obama and Democrats, not Republicans, were the ones trying to shut down the federal government because he insisted on funding a health care reform law that was passed in 2010.

Last week, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) called on Republicans to refuse to vote on a continuing resolution to fund the government if included any funding for Obamacare. Cruz said that the government should be shut down unless the Affordable Care Act was “fully” defunded.

“Under no circumstances will I support a continuing resolution that funds even one penny of Obamacare,” Cruz told The Heritage Foundation on Tuesday. “In order to win this fight, we need to get 41 Republicans in the Senate to make the same commitment or we need 218 Republicans in the House.”

“The next step will be that President Obama and [Senate Majority Leader] Harry Reid will scream and yell, ‘Why are those mean and nasty Republicans threatening to shut down the government over Obamacare?’” he continued. “And at that point, we’ve actually got to stand up and fight.”

Good lord, these buffoons need to be banished from the court. Honestly, it's this kind of clownishness that makes people give up on politics and government entirely--even people like me. Maybe that's what the Cruzes of Congress want: drive people nuts with their craziness until they all walk away in disgust, and then they can do whatever they want with impunity.

from their insurance company due to over paying their premiums, believe that it is alright for the insurance CEO to make a multi-million dollar salary and a multi-million dollar bonus. What do you think their response is to a request that they sign over their refund and send it to the CEO? I my opinion only someone with an unreasonable intelligence would do such a thing and think it is alright to destroy the interest of their family. And it goes to show that such a thinker would elect lawmakers that would allow the Insurance Board of Texas to conduct business like this. In my opinion, these are the type of people that appeal to the Ted Cruz organization.

If Texas did not have the oil and natural gas industry many more of the population would be in the lower classes socioeconomically. If all of us would only go and vote! GOP Texas new primary candidate wants to make sure that not everyone can vote. One of them is Gregg Abbott, running for governor.

"Obama is an out of control big government liberal".

This is the first shot in the GOP war on the truth about the looming govt shutdown. They in the past have blamed Obama for causing racial division by getting elected, for causing the country's downgraded credit rating, and they blamed him on Fox News for the 2008 TARP bailout of the banks.

Half the people in the country will buy this because of the huge megaphone at Rupert Murdoch's network. People only hear what they want to believe.

It's dishonest, irresponsible and an attempt to avoid any responsibility for their actions. The Tea Baggers have established a long history of behaving that way, even when they were called the John Birch Society and were fighting against the fluoridation of drinking water.

That's why.

If I were a Dem Congressmann, I would put a bill on the floor that repeals the ACA in it's entierety, and then REPLACES it with a govt, not-fot-profit corporation who's only purpose is the expansion of Medicare to anyone who WANTS to sign up for it, and the delivery of services paid for by the premiums those people who choose to OPTIONALLY sign up for the program pay in.

Any Democrat with any spine would ABSOUTELY force them to put up or shut up when it comes to repeal and replace. I would DARE them to show the public how much they really truly HATEHATEHATE Obamacare, and what they are willing to swallow to get rid of it lol.

But I would do these things because I'm a Dick, and I'm pretty serious about it.

18. Krugman's insight:
Tue Jul 30, 2013, 03:36 PM
Jul 2013

Greg Sargent finds Marco Rubio trying to redefine the nature of budget blackmail, declaring that it’s not about Republicans threatening to shut down the government unless Obama defunds heath reform; it’s about Obama threatening to shut down the government unless he gets to implement the law. No, really. Rubio:

I think the real question is: Is Barack Obama willing to shut down the government over ObamaCare? In essence, I think we should pay our military. I think we should fund the government. I just don’t think we should fund ObamaCare. And what the President is saying is we either fund ObamaCare or we don’t fund anything. And I think that’s an unreasonable position. And that’s the position he’s taken and the Democrats have taken.

So, where have I heard that before? In Lincoln’s Cooper Union address, in which he talks of slave interests declaring that they will break up the Union if Northerners vote in a Republican, which will make secession the fault of … anti-slavery forces:

That is cool. A highwayman holds a pistol to my ear, and mutters through his teeth, “Stand and deliver, or I shall kill you, and then you will be a murderer!”

He loses nothing by making these statements. His teabagger followers rejoice and the media keeps on publishing his crap as news, as if it is important. He doesn't fear a voter backlash for some reason or he wouldn't act like this. I don't think he really believes what he says, but he knows it gets him headlines and even bad publicity is still publicity.

...of course the POTUS insists on funding the Affordable Care Act. It's the freaking law of the land, you idiots! The only way for it to be LEGALLY defunded is through repeal. So, in essence, Cruz, Rubio and the rest of the mad teabaggers are advocating the open violation of federal law, because they can't manage to get enough votes in the Senate, much less have the President sign repeal legislation. Typical Rethuglicans. Wasting everyone else's time because they want to act like first rate, assholes.
