Santorum attacks Obama on prenatal screening (he's against it)

Incredible. This guy's nuts:

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Campaigning in Ohio on Saturday, Rick Santorum displayed his culture-warrior side in full force, as he harshly attacked President Obama by suggesting the president wanted to see more disabled babies aborted and accusing him of projecting his values - which Santorum claimed were not rooted in the Bible - on the Catholic Church.

Santorum recalled his prominent role in the 1990s debates over the controversial procedure that critics call partial-birth abortion. He lambasted the president's health care law requiring insurance policies to include free prenatal testing, "because free prenatal testing ends up in more abortions and therefore less care that has to be done because we cull the ranks of the disabled in our society."

"That, too, is part of Obamacare, another hidden message as to what President Obama thinks of those who are less able than the elites who want to govern our country," Santorum said.

Prenatal tests are a standard part of modern medical care. The Department of Health and Human Services says such tests "help keep you and your baby healthy during pregnancy. It also involves education and counseling about how to handle different aspects of your pregnancy." . . .

He's a 100% hypocrite and it will all come out. He says no abortins for anyone, even to save the life of the mother, however when pregnancy would have killed his wife, she had an abortion. Then to bring the dead baby home so the children could "play" with it is just so very sick. Oh yeah, man of the people - so very NOT!!

Attacks Dems for making poor catholics offer health care to women, how DARE they, but yet says nary a word about Catholic priests raping young boys.

might have some sort of disability or disorder, even one that could be treated prenatally if they knew about it? Icky Ricky SansScrotum seems to assume that if parents discover during pregnancy that the baby has a problem they will always choose abortion, but that really isn't the case at all. Many, probably most, parents willingly accept a child with a disability but they sure as hell deserve to know about it beforehand so they can prepare for the medical (and financial) problems that they will have to face. And some disorders can be treated or cured before the child is born.

Sat Feb 18, 2012, 06:53 PM
Feb 2012

without the prenatal screening you don't know the baby has the disease so you don't get the stem cell transplant until the baby is symptomatic and suffers more and loses his or her milestones. Oh and babies who don't get the transplant scream a lot in a high pitched noise and their limbs become stiff and they go blind. They are treated with seizure medications to calm them. The meds don't always work that well.Oh and type 1 metachromatic leukodystrophy is almost always fatal in the first 3 years of life if no transplant occurs.

So I guess in the cases of MLD santorum wants to KILL BABIES.

Mrs. OBD and I asked "if we're not having an abortion, why should we go through with the amnio?"

The doctor, who did her residency at a Catholic hospital, responded as follows: if you are going to give birth to a baby with any kind of special need, knowing that in advance, and letting that knowledge inform the choice of hospital, may be critical in the child's survival. You need the best neonatology department and the best NICU in these circumstances. That hospital may not be the one you've chosen, or even one within 100 miles of your house.

Mothers-to-be need the tests. Period.

50. Santorum and the French Revolution
Sun Feb 19, 2012, 06:12 AM
Feb 2012

Rick Santorum is also warning those of us who oppose theocracy and religion in government (like Tom Jefferson and friends) not to reject god from government because he says it will lead a replay of the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror by religion bashing Jacobins and French peasantry who executed the French king and aristocrats.

But this reveals a total lack of historical knowledge by this disguised priest who also lectures us about the “evils” of birth control while denying all of the past atrocities of his church. The reason that the French peasants revolted and took revenge against the monarch and aristocrats is because they had been denied all political rights, oppressed, starved, abused and were forced to pay for the flagrant opulent life style and splendor of the nobility. It was even a criminal for them to kill rabbits who ran across their diminutive plots of land for food because this “interfered” with the hunting of the aristocrats.

The reason that they overthrew the catholic church as well was the fact that the church was totally supporting and justifying this oppression with its dogma that this was god’s plan for the peasants and that kings had a divine right to rule. Atheism did not cause them to rebel – atheism was the response to the cruel and immoral support of monarchic and aristocratic oppression by religion. It was the same kind of theocratic abuse that led to the creation of secular democracies and the American Constitution.

This is pretty much like what Santorum and his right wing fundamentalist buddies are doing today when they fully support the right of the 1% to “rule” at the expense of the 99%.

Many brave people gave their lives to win these freedoms – and we’d do it again, Rick.

Do not be fooled, folks--this man could very well end up with the nomination. Now whether that will permanently fracture the gop party remains to be seen. He is winning causcuses. If the majority of "independent" swing voters decide that they don't want Obama as president they will vote against their daughters'/wives'/mothers'/sisters'/aunts'/grandmothers' best interests and he could very well end up in the white house.

As far as the "less able than the elites"--that translates to stupid knuckle-dragging emo voters who don't think for themselves, but have to be told what to do and where to go all the got damb time. I'd rather have elites who don't operate from a position of being diminished by all they refuse to wrap their heads around than to have the alternative. Might as well go live in afghanistan.

Yeah, maybe the tiny minority of them who agree with him on this, but that has to be REALLY tiny. No freaking way! Same for aware men, particularly those who have kids and/or are part of the 21st century. And men who want to be able to live with their wives after they vote.

I have a feeling it'll be a brokered convention if he's leading going into the convention because prevailing pundits are right -- there's no way he could win against Obama given the above.

But I'm just ecstatic when he makes these caveman statements. It just makes my day to know that the morons who are participating in the caucuses/primaries are stupid enough to bump this shit-for-brains to the top of the pack!

coming out in favor of vastly more funding to help out with the children who get born with various defects or diseases (many of which as others have pointed out are fixable before birth). Raising a handicapped or seriously ill child can be enormously expensive. The decision about whether or not to have an abortion should be totally up to the parents, not made by someone else who will not have to either have the abortion or raise the child in question.
