PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Houston Rockets forward Terrence Jones has been arrested and accused of stomping on a homeless man's leg, police say.
Portland Police Bureau spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson says the incident happened early Wednesday outside a downtown nightclub. A sergeant saw the 6-foot-9 Jones walk by a doorway where two homeless men were sleeping and yell "Wake Up!" before lifting his foot and stomping on the legs of one.
Jones was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on a harassment charge.
The homeless man, identified as 46-year-old Daniel Kellerher, had a minor injury that did not require immediate medical attention...

Why in the world would anyone do something so senseless? You're a rich, physically huge athlete with nothing better to do than to stomp a sleeping homeless man? Boy, aren't you just the brave one.

(8,021 posts)I think he may have suffered significant physical injury, with accompanying psychological trauma. Of the expensive kind.
And as for Jones, what a dick! That was in his hometown, too. Family will be so proud..

(1,957 posts)and yet they seem resentful towards those who have nothing at all. Why? They should not only not harm the homeless(would he also do the same to a disabled person or a senior?) but they should be first to help them out. These sports players, for example, rise to fame so quickly with the money tp match. Hate should not even be part of their persona.

(602 posts)...(or maybe not just of late) of treating the homeless as sub-human -- random killings, "bum fights" on Youtube, etc. There is something very sick in the soul of someone who would do this to the most helpless among us.

(19,964 posts)The lawyer for NBA Houston Rockets basketball player Terrence Jones Thursday said Jones may have tripped over a sleeping homeless man, yelled at him to "Wake up!,'' and nudged him, but did not stomp on him as police and prosecutors have alleged.
Jones, a 21-year-old Portland native, pleaded not guilty to one allegation of harassment in Multnomah County Circuit Court on Wednesday following his arrest about 2 a.m. yesterday.
Portland police said Sgt. Anthony Passadore, who was patrolling Old Town as a number of bars were closing, witnessed Jones yell "Wake up!" to two homeless men asleep in the doorway of 114 N.W. Third Avenue and then stomp with his leg on one man's legs.
According to Jones' lawyer Kevin O'Connell, the homeless man was sleeping in a doorway next to the bureau's Old Town precinct and his body "partly extended onto the sidewalk.''
