Embassy Closures Extended Through Aug. 10 Out Of Caution, State Department Says
Source: Reuters
WASHINGTON, Aug 4 (Reuters) - The United States extended the closures of some embassies and consulates in the Middle East - which had been closed Sunday due to an al Qaeda threat - through Aug. 10 due to caution but not the emergence of any new threat, the State Department said.
Other U.S. diplomatic posts, including in Kabul, Baghdad and Algiers, that had been closed on Sunday, will reopen on Monday, the State Department said.
Posts in Abu Dhabi, Amman, Cairo, Riyadh, Dhahran, Jeddah, Doha, Dubai, Kuwait, Manama, Muscat, Sanaa, Tripoli, Antanarivo, Bujumbura, Djibouti, Khartoum, Kigali, and Port Louis will be closed through Saturday.
U.S. diplomatic posts in Dhaka, Algiers, Nouakchott, Kabul, Herat, Mazar el Sharif, Baghdad, Basrah, and Erbil will open on Monday, the State Department said.

That was a sunny day up and down the east coast; I was just a short distance from the Pentagon when that plane hit. I don't remember any warnings or travel notices issued around that time.
So I'm not sure where you're getting the "Just like Iraq, hmmmm?" bullshit from. It doesn't marry with any kind of reality.

I heard something about increased "chatter"
but a threat? I never read anything about a specific threat.
Keep the peasants terrified, while you poke into their personal lives.
Then convince them you have to bomb the shit out of someone to "protect" them.
This is not sustainable -
USA is increasing it's debt limit once again, continuously losing market share of the manufacturing World,
frigging around with a dysfunctional Health Care system, and so on - not progressing at all.
Will not improve while outfits like the MIC, NSA, Big Pharma, Big Oil, etc., are running the show.
Solution?
A Coalition of the UNwilling:
Cut off USA's credit, sanction the USA by cutting off any supplies that can be used for war.
Ya know - that "dual-use" thing the USA came up with - good for the goose
good for the gander.
But you know what I think eventually will happen?
USA will not heal itself from within
people are too complacent.
As I've said before,
It's gonna get messy
(sigh)

(22,000 posts)People were taking a piss the other day because of the worldwide alert issued by the Department of State. These are done on a regular basis or with specific threats are made. Do we know what those threats are? No.
I live overseas and get emails from the DoS all the time. Mostly they are meant for people who are traveling.
The closing of the embassies and consulates should give you a pretty good idea what areas the threats are in. Look at the list of cities and countries. Most of them are Middle Eastern. Just because we have set al-Queda back a few of their key people doesn't mean they'll stop attacking.
The over reaction on DU is priceless in its stupidity.
