US warns citizens to leave Yemen amid terror alert
Source: BBC
A global travel alert issued on Tuesday said: "The US Department of State warns US citizens of the high security threat level in Yemen due to terrorist activities and civil unrest.
"The department urges US citizens to defer travel to Yemen and those US citizens currently living in Yemen to depart immediately."
It added that "the security threat level in Yemen is extremely high".
The BBC's Abdullah Ghorab, in Sanaa, says the Yemeni capital has been experiencing unprecedented security measures, with hundreds of armoured military vehicles deployed to secure the presidential palace, vital infrastructural buildings and Western embassies in the capital.

(3,746 posts)SANAA (AFP) A US drone strike killed four Al-Qaeda suspects in Yemen Tuesday, a tribal source said, amid heightened security across the Middle East against a possible major attack by the jihadists.
Those killed included one of 25 Al-Qaeda operatives listed late on Monday by the Yemeni authorities as among those plotting attacks to coincide with the ending of the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramadan later this week, the source told AFP.
The raid in Yemen's eastern Marib province targeted their vehicle "and turned it into a ball of fire, immediately killing the four militants," the source said, adding that all those killed were Yemenis.
Yemen's official Saba news agency confirmed "the death of four Al-Qaeda militants in Wadi Abida in Marib."

Here we are in the midst of one the most intense debates and sustain debates that weve had in a very long time in this country over the dangers of excess surveillance, and suddenly an administration that has spent two claiming that it has decimated Al-Qaeda decides that there is this massive threat that involves the closing of embassies and consulates throughout the world, Greenwald explained. And within literally an amount of hours, the likes of Saxby Chambliss and Lindsey Graham join with the White House and Democrats in Congress who, remember, are the leading defenders of the NSA at this point to exploit that terrorist threat, and to insist that it shows that the NSA and these programs are necessary.

Killing Osama bin Laden did not change a thing.
Killing the next #1 or #2 won't change things.
Killing Saddam did not improve things.
USA needs a change of attitude.
THAT would improve things.

My wild guess is that they just discovered a huge oil reserve under Yemen that is surrounded by a 3 foot thick wall of gold which fertilizes poppy fields up on the surface...
Barry is going on Leno tonight to tell us why we all have to be 'vigilant' about this or else some scary Yemeni terrirists will come steal your free healthcare, & make you say prayers 5 times a day to an "evil" God [instead of the one true God "Moloch", which despite being an ALL POWERFUL GOD, needs the help of THE UNITED STATES & ISRAELI GOVERNMENT, or else he is doomed]...

(11,489 posts)The US government is all concerned about Snowden leaking their classified program to the press and how it might hinder their ability to infiltrate terror plots.
But the New York Times reports that the US intercepted electronic communications between al-Zawahri and the leader of al Quaida in Yemen, and that DOESN'T jeopardize anything?
I also don't get why I can't copy and paste anything from the New York Times anymore, but that's another story.

I can't copy and paste the link for some reason, but I tried retyping it above.
The NYT article makes it pretty clear this was coming from an American official. Maybe I missing something, but it sounded to me like an American official leaked this to the press, but the NYT agreed not to name names, and then McClathy named names, so the NYT did as well.
