Romney warns against govt shutdown

Source: Associated Press

Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney jumped into the debate over the GOP's future Tuesday night, warning congressional Republicans against forcing a government shutdown in their quest to stop President Barack Obama's signature health care law.

Romney addressed more than 200 donors on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee at a fundraiser for the New Hampshire Republican Party, staged just four miles from the vacation home where he has spent much of the summer with his family. The event was closed to the media, but his office released his prepared remarks.

... Romney did not criticize anyone by name, but he dismissed the very strategy employed by some of his party's biggest names — potential 2016 presidential candidates among them. Sens. Marco Rubio of Florida, Ted Cruz of Texas and Mike Lee of Utah are urging Republicans to swear off voting for any year-end spending bill that includes money for the president's health care law. The federal government will close if Congress doesn't approve a stopgap funding bill by the fiscal year's Sept. 30 end.

... He called on Republicans to "stay smart," in part, by backing candidates who can win. And as the pool of potential candidates for the 2016 presidential contest begins to grow, Romney suggested that most are not electable.

That's true but fortunately the GOP won't listen to Romney because he lost.

I can't stand Romney, and my brain just can't form the words to acknowledge him as a voice of reason.
But I guess I just did.

I saw this afternoon he would be speaking in the area and tried to find out where. Even AFTER the fact they only identify "a mansion four miles from his summer home". How do you claim to be an inclusive "big tent" party when a major fundraising event is kept incognito???

If he WERE, I promise you he would be on the Party Bandwagon, screaming his fool bloody head off for a Government shut-down. It just shows how dumb the ELECTED leaders of that party are, they would rather score political points with "the Base" than actualy take one of those people to the hospital if one of them needed it.

The people who vote GOP, and recieve Medicare benefits don't want it fucked with AT ALL, they KNOW how wonderful it is.

Thanks, FDR, for setting us up with ANOTHER win, all these years later lol.=) America truly is in your debt.

is that they are afraid of it damaging the Republican Party. They give not one rat's ass for the people affected through loss of services or loss of their job or pay.

So fuck their Johnny Come Lately reason.
