Trail of Blood Leads Police to Major San Francisco Ecstasy Drug Bust

Source: NBC

A trail of blood led San Francisco police detectives to make one of the biggest drug busts in the department's history, seizing more than $1.5 million worth of MDMA powder and pills.

MDMA is the active ingredient in ecstasy.

The discovery, which came by pure luck, was found the same weekend as the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival in Golden Gate Park, prompting investigators to wonder whether the drugs were meant to supply concertgoers.

"We're happy if it is just a coincidence," Police Chief Greg Suhr said at a Tuesday news conference. "If it's not, we're very happy that none of this found its way out to the Polo Fields."

If you read the details of the studies, they were done with a very small (under 20) sample size, and with strictly controlled dosages.

I have seen first hand the damage done by street ecstasy, whether its pure "Molly" or adulterated with piperazines or other crap. Over time, MDMA depletes your brain's natural supply of dopamine and serotonin, causing long lasting effects.

I'm all for research, but as with other potential medicines, lets not overstate the benefits and understate the risks.

godsend to them and in very small doses in a short period of time.

I do agree, more studies needed, but they will not study it as long as it is illegal.

I heard a woman at the last International Drug Policy Reform Conference speak on her daughter's using Ecstacy when she was dying from colon cancer. It helped her daughter face her impending death with less fear and anxiety. I want it available to me, for my loved ones as an option.
