U.S. attorney under scrutiny for Facebook posts

Source: Houston Chronicle

The U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Texas said he will "look into" derogatory comments about minorities and President Barack Obama posted on Facebook by a Beaumont-based assistant U.S. attorney.

John Craft, an attorney in the criminal division, posted comments on a private Facebook page in response to a status update backing stand your ground laws. He made reference to Trayvon Martin, a black 17-year-old killed by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman, who was acquitted in a July trial of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges.

Craft wrote: "How are you fixed for Skittles and Arizona watermelon fruitcocktail (and maybe a bottle of Robitussin, too) in your neighborhood? I am fresh out of "purple drank." So, I may come by for a visit. In a rainstorm. In the middle of the night. In a hoodie. Don't get upset or anything if you see me looking in your window ... kay?"

...

In another comment, Craft wrote that "low information voters carried the day for the Dalibama in the last election" and posted an image of a graphic that said: "Obama: Why Stupid People Shouldn't Vote."

The Chronicle received an email of a screen capture of the Facebook interaction, with the name of the other participant redacted.

Dalibama? Wha...? Sure sounds like something posted on Freeperville when they're tired of "Mutt in the White Hut", "Obamessiah", "The Kenyan", Obambi, Zero, etc.

Anyone who holds such bigoted views AND is dumb enough to post 'em on Facebook is unfit to be a nonpartisan public servant. Seriously. This guy probably gets his stereotypes from southern rap music, in which a lot of songs refer to recreational use of cough syrup, like "Sippin' on Some Syrup" (pronounced "sizzurp&quot by Three 6 Mafia:

Or the first verse of "Snap Yo Fingers" by Lil Jon that's pretty much about drinking that purple:

Or the chorus of "Wasted" by Gucci Mane that refers to "sippin' that purple"

I used to listen to this stuff when I was younger, so I know where Craft developed his prejudice.

For GOOD rap from the South, here's "My Block" by Houston rapper Scarface:

Funny how someone would post a whole bunch of stupid on Facebook and accuse Obama voters of being stupid! Remember that next time you see such anti Obama crap on the internet!

I don't understand how a person like this can gain a position of such authority. You are right Craft is unfit to be a public servant. The sooner he is gone the better.

I imagine "norm" in this usage is one of those relative words that means whatever is convenient to both insult and rationalize the insult at the time...

But... but... (insert rationalization here)

as any observation that falls between mean and +/- 2 standard deviations.

Thus, any sort of progressive thinking is not the "norm" in Texas.

have taken over Texas to give it a bad smell for the next few generations. Have you ever seen what one rotten apple will do to a bag of apples? Texas only has a couple of NON-rotten apples left per bag. The oil companies have seen to it.
