(29,876 posts)Mohamed ElBaradei, the No. 2 man in Egypt's embattled interim government, abruptly resigned Wednesday in an apparent split with the nation's leader, as fighting intensified between security forces and supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood.
In a resignation letter sent to Interim President Adly Mansour as the day's death toll from clashes throughout Egypt mounted, ElBaradei cited "decisions I do not agree with" regarding the government's crackdown on the political turmoil which began on July 3 with the ouster of former President Mohammed Morsi, Reuters reports.
"It has become difficult for me to continue bearing responsibility for decisions that I do not agree with and whose consequences I fear," ElBaradei wrote. "I cannot bear the responsibility for one drop of blood.''

(7,759 posts)the military coup...cause that is what it was. No matter who was supporting it. We can't say on one hand that we want free and fair elections across the world and then decide against what the people choose because we don't like the people in power. Either we STFU from the beginning or stop trying to impose governments and regime changes across the world. We would be better respected and our "enemies" would know what to expect from us in all situations if our actions matched our words at all time. If countries knew from the beginning that all aid would be cut off if....or that we would not support UN votes if....or that we would not send out children to fight if.....
Then our government's word would mean something and we could stop sending our children off to fight and die for empty words and financial ruination of our country. How long would this "peoples' coup" have lasted in Egypt if we had stopped the aid and diplomatic privileges from the beginning? I say about two weeks.

(5,668 posts)if the right felt like they do now back in the 90's. they'd be supporting Serbia's mass slaughter of Muslims in Bosnia .....
like you know thats who we supported right. most Bosnians were Muslim. Serbia was basically retaliating for what Bosnia did long before that. That don't make it right however.
So now the police state in Egypt just made Morsi look pretty damn good..
