Bill de Blasio, Christine Quinn in dead heat for New York mayorship
Source: NY Daily News
The latest poll in the fast-moving New York mayoral race has Public Advocate Bill de Blasio neck-and-neck with City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.
The two frontrunners in the Wall Street Journal-NBC-Marist College survey each had the backing of 24% of likely Democratic primary voters, with former Controller Bill Thompson just behind with 18% of the vote.

(11,344 posts)You should factor that in your voting calculations.
Bill D actually tried to stop one when an idiot police officer stopped Jumanne Williams from crossing Atlantic Avenue.

Thompson would be my second choice.

She always knows what she is talking about and is worth listening to.

(4,462 posts)A vote for Quinn is like a fourth term for Bloomberg.
On September 10, I'm going to pull the lever (actually fill in the tiny, tiny circle) for Bill de Blasio, and then celebrate with a 30 oz. sweet tea from McDonald's.

(89,244 posts)she isn't able to get more. her hopes of victory are if the rest of the candidates divide the rest of the support among themselves with none getting more than that.

(71,265 posts)The question is who will be the two that make the runoff. It is possible Thompson and De Blasio go past her and get to the runoff.

(71,265 posts)Quinn, Thompson, and De Blasio have the same amount of money for the most part.
I am leaning towards De Blasio because it would be nice to have a progressive for a change here.
I could also vote for Thompson.

How do you feel about Client No. 9, errr . . . Elliot Spitzer, for Comptroller?
I'll be voting for Scott Stringer. He's far less likely to hire out of state prostitutes. As you can tell, my standards at this point are quite low.
On a more positive note, at least we're not San Diego and stuck with Bob Filner, who actually manages to be more creepy than Carlos Danger and Client No. 9 combined!

(14,549 posts)with no white knight in sight, the assumption is that the Dem who wins the primary will be a slam dunk for Mayor.

Would a GOP candidate have a chance in hell? After all, that's how Bloomberg got in the door--he switched from D to R so he wouldn't have to deal with a crowded primary field, and later to I.

(25,183 posts)It features a young man, about high school age, with a really Seventies-looking Afro saying all kinds of nice things about Bill de Blasio, and then concluding, "And I'd still say all this about him, even if he weren't my dad!" Cut to a shot of Bill and the boy walking on a sidewalk, and Bill putting his hand on the smiling boy's shoulder.
It had to appeal to the African-American vote, and I think it coincides with de Blasio's most recent rise in the polls.
