Ed Schultz Moves Back To Weekdays, Takes Chris Matthews' 5 PM Slot
Source: Huffington Post
Ed Schultz is moving back to weekdays, and taking one of Chris Matthews' time slots, MSNBC said Monday.
Schultz will take over the 5 PM slot Mondays through Fridays, starting August 26th. Matthews, whose "Hardball" aired at both 5 and 7 PM, will now air solely at 7.
TV Newser and The Hollywood Reporter both reported the news.
The move represents something of a triumphant return from the wilderness for Schultz. He moved to the relative desert of weekend afternoons back in May; now, he will not only be returning to weekdays, but kicking off MSNBC's prime time lineup every night.

(1,156 posts)but I think Chris Hayes is terrific. I hope his show lasts until he adjusts to the new time slot and viewers begin to see him as I do. What a quick thinker he is, and I enjoy how he packs so many ideas and thoughts into just a few moments of fast talking.
I am so happy Ed is back. There is room for his show and room for Chris Hayes' new show as well. Both Ed and Chris do a great job.

Quick-witted, brilliant, and killer points she makes, especially in debates with adversarials and other assorted CONs.

(1,156 posts)will be able to enjoy his show every day. What Ed has done for the Democratic Party should have been rewarded, and instead he was demoted.
I'm a Chris Hayes fan, too. I wonder how many people have been boycotting his show because of the decision to drop Ed in favor of the new show for Chris. I hope the boycott is now over.
I think both Ed and Chris have a lot to offer and it is my hope that Chris' show will be around for years. Then I hope Chris runs for office. I think he is pretty amazing.

(24,396 posts)as they seem hell-bent on hiring younger people as on-air talent. They seem to have these long-term plans for people, not that their shows last more than a few years.
Of course, even if Matthews were to die suddenly, it wouldn't necessarily stop him from talking and interrupting guests.

Sooooo true! At least they won't have to duck the spittle anymore.
Rachel can do mtp or bring back my Olbermann! I want Keith! Now! ( spittle flys from my lips)
Unfortunately they'll give the job to someone like Lindsay Graham.

In fact, he would be much more watchable if he cut way down on the number of guests and just expressed his own opinions for most of the show, which is what he's dying to do every day.
The current Tweety format is terribly frustrating for viewers who actually want to hear the tail end of sentences from the guests.

I don't watch Tweety for that very reason. The guy is SO damned rude - rude to the guests and rude to the viewers.

(429 posts)Chris Hayes Delivers MSNBCs Lowest 8 PM Ratings Since 2006
By: Jason Easley May. 29th, 2013
MSNBCs great experiment of putting Chris Hayes at 8 PM has turned into a total disaster as All In is delivering the networks lowest ratings since 2006.
Chris Hayes second full month in prime time since taking over for Ed Schultz saw total viewership drop by 32%, and viewership among those age 25-54 decline by 13%. All Ins bad ratings caused The Rachel Maddow Show to deliver its worst ratings month since 2008. Maddows ratings are down 21% in terms of total viewers, and 22% with viewers age 25-54. The Last Word with Lawrence ODonnell had the smallest decline in total viewers at 18%, but suffered a 33% decline with viewers age 25-54.
Chris Hayes is going to take a lot of heat for these ratings, but it isnt all his fault. Phil Griffin and the other geniuses running MSNBC tossed Ed Schultz out of weeknights because they thought they could remake the network as wonk TV, and attract more younger viewers with Chris Hayes.

(20,450 posts)his credit, Tweety asked us to watch his show at 7:00. I thought it was a nice gesture. I liked the way he carried himself tonight...a bit more humble, a welcome change from his normal, pompous attitude.
So happy to have Big Ed back! We need his voice!

(4,742 posts)Ed doing a 12-3pm Radio show and then doing a 9pm show must have been killer. If you're doing a 12noon radio show you're up bright and early doing show prep. You do 3 hours of talk radio (not as easy as it seems) and then 6 hours later you do an hour TV show. Probably midnight or 1am before he was wound down enough to crash for the night. 5 days a week. That had to be VERY tough.
