LePage is heard to say Obama 'hates white people'
Source: Portland Press Herald
Gov. Paul LePage last week told a group of Republicans that President Barack Obama hates white people, according to two state lawmakers who heard the remark directly.
The governor made the comment during a Maine Republican Party fundraiser on Aug. 12 at the home of John and Linda Fortier in Belgrade. According to the invitation, the fundraiser was billed as a meet and greet with LePage and his wife, Ann LePage, and also as an opportunity to meet Rick Bennett, the new state party chairman.
Two Republican lawmakers confirmed the comment when asked directly by a Press Herald reporter, but asked that their names be withheld for fear of political retribution. Each said LePage talked about how Obama could have been the best president ever if he highlighted his biracial heritage. But, LePage said, the president hasnt done that because he hates white people.
Yeah, he said it, said one lawmaker. It was one little thing from a speech, but I think most people there thought it was totally inappropriate.

It's because people like you "sir" don't like black people. It's because people who run congress who don't like a black man in the oval office and will hold this country hostage till he's gone.

(22,000 posts)This is before I finally figured out she was a conservative. Because I didn't know her well and the fact that she didn't talk about it much it took me awhile to figure it out. She actually did post something on Facebook that tipped me off sometime after the election. I gather her family gives her a lot of shit about it (and if she was my family member I would too).
Thankfully the little family I have are all Ds.

But for 2016 I believe it gonna be a "white" Dem running. Maybe he and the rest of the gopers hope sincerely that MOST white people will vote for them in 2014 since gopers are busy trying to suppress minority votes. Ummmmm, I believe white women will make the difference tho in favor of non-gops.

The two confirmatory statements, confirm LePage said that others heard Obama say something.
Despite the headline still more others say they did NOT hear LePage said that. ...let alone anyone having heard Obama.
Where and to whom Obama supposedly remains a mystery.

(84 posts)If Eliot Cutler decided not to run, Mike Michaud would totally humiliate the Penguin. As a moderate Democrat (and neither he nor Cutler can be called Progressive by any measure), he would get all the Democratic vote, as well as much of the non-Tea Party Republican vote.
But in a 3-way race, we could see the same thing all over again. Unlikely, because the Democrats are running a much more attractive candidate than in 2010 and LePage doesn't even have the support he had in 2010 (something like 25% approval?), but possible.

(12,022 posts)We've got three candidates. Once again.

(227 posts)Michaud is to the right of Cutler on most issues (he courts older Conservative Catholic voters), and I was happy to support Cutler because I knew he'd wipe the floor with LePage or any Republican (should LePage decide not to run again, which he's threatened). Months have passed and now Michaud announces. As a Democratic Progressive voter am I supposed to be enthused?
mainer
(12,022 posts)like you, I voted for Cutler and would do so again. As much as it pains me to vote against the Dem candidate.
Ocelot
(227 posts)If either Cutler or Michaud polls significantly higher (say 5%) than the other, during the final weeks before voting, the one polling behind would have to drop out by mutual agreement...for the benefit of the people of Maine and not making them endure another Republican governor, possibly even the same Republican governor for another four years.

(2,730 posts)know President Obama is biracial. What is this guy's point? Is it because the President looks Black? I think he is trying to paint the President as a racist, to stir up white people.

(2,117 posts)Paul Richard LePage (born October 9, 1948) is a racist, an American businessman and politician; In January 2011, he was sworn-in as the 74th Governor of Maine. A Republican, he was mayor of Waterville from 2003 to 2011, and was a city councilor prior to that. He worked as general manager of the 14-store discount chain Marden's Surplus and Salvage from 1996 until 2011.
I am sure it will be changed soon, but it's refreshing to see a bit of honesty there.
