NEW YORK (WABC) -- At least one person, a woman in her 20s, was seriously hurt when an out-of-control taxi jumped a curb and plowed into a group of pedestrians in Midtown Manhattan late Tuesday morning.
The incident happened at 49th Street and Sixth Avenue around 11:20 a.m. The crash happened directly under a traffic camera, which showed the cab up on the sidewalk.
EMS is on the scene, but several passersby helped the injured victims.
The most seriously hurt, a young female tourist from England who was reportedly walking with a friend, was rushed to Belleview Hospital with serious injuries to her legs. It is believed at least one of them was severed.

Took two taxi trips in NYC last week.
One of them did not make me fear for my life.

(12,471 posts)How dare they walk on the sidewalk!
NYC is way too crowded any way.
Seriously, this used to happen weekly, in some part of the city or another. Why is it all of a sudden news? Could it be the, "If it bleeds, it leads," syndrome, or perhaps it is a slow news day.

(26,060 posts)about a car jumping the curb in a while. Perhaps because it's so close to a "landmark". My prayers are out to the tourist who sounds very seriously hurt.
