Kasich approval down, OH-Gov looks like toss up

Source: PPP

PPP's newest Ohio Governor poll finds a toss up race, with Democratic challenger Ed FitzGerald holding a slight lead over John Kasich at 38/35.

The closeness of the race is more of a reflection on Kasich than FitzGerald. He has a negative approval rating with 42% of voters approving of him to 47% who disapprove. That represents a 10 point net decline from our last Ohio poll in November when he was at 45/40. FitzGerald meanwhile remains unknown to most voters in the state with 62% not having an opinion about him one way or the other- among those who do have one 20% see him positively and 18% in a negative light.

Kasich's winning 68% of the Republican vote right now compared to FitzGerald's 61% of Democrats. What's giving FitzGerald his slight overall lead is a 40/31 advantage with independents. Kasich's approval with them is particularly poor at 34/52.

Had a chat with my friends at ODP and FitzGerald is seen as a real threat.

He came here from Leeman Bros who lost 400 million dollars from the Ohio state employees retirement fund. That should have landed him is prison. As with Rick Scott of Fla. who robbed medicare of some 3 billion dollars.
He won by a very slim ans suspicious margin over a popular and good Governor. He works for the Kochs and actually has much higher ambitions. He tried to destroy the public unions and was smacked down by the people. He intends to lease our turnpike to the billionaires, sell the lottery and has done a fabulous job of destroying public education.
He rammed through extreme abortion restrictions in THE BUDGET with no debate in literally the middle of the night. Amazingly there was not the protest we saw from Texas progressives. Hardly a peep. He is our own Gov.ultrasound. He is a horrible person. A devil.
Unfortunately, half of the people in Ohio believe we fought for the confederacy. Ignorance and bigotry is rampant in all of Ohio. older ohioans are the worst as they are so full of hate and the rednecks infest every factory and machine shop and its all because of hate radio.
Hate radio and the Faux propaganda channel have been very effective here in Ohio.

He may also very well take down the better part of the current Ohio Republican Party leadership with him. Wishful thinking in this corrupt and backwards state, but it's entirely possible even here.

FitzGerald's best strategy is to press Kasich hard and relentlessly on JobsOhio while outlining an alternative vision for this state and it's future. If a scandal breaks open, he'll be well positioned to ride the wave while Kasich reaps the whirlwind of his Wall Street corruption and arrogance.
