Christie endorses Lonegan for U.S. Senate

Source: Philadelphia Inquirer

FLEMINGTON, N.J. - Gov. Christie on Tuesday endorsed Republican Steve Lonegan for the U.S. Senate, rebuking political observers who speculated that the governor would not campaign vigorously on his former adversary's behalf.

As he delivered a strongly worded, five-minute endorsement for Lonegan in a packed room at the Hunterdon County Republican headquarters, Christie said he had been asked by a reporter earlier in the day "what kind of energy" he would have for his Lonegan endorsement.

"My energy is just fine, and let me say this: This will not be the only time that Steve Lonegan and I are together between now and Oct. 16," Christie said, referring to the forthcoming special election.

Pledging to raise money for Lonegan - who is also slated to receive the endorsement of interim U.S. Sen. Jeffrey S. Chiesa on Wednesday - Christie said: "The apparatus of the Republican Party is going to be behind Steve Lonegan between now and Oct. 16 to bring us to victory. Let there be no doubt in anybody's mind about that, or about my energy for this endorsement."

I understand that Christie has to suck up to the base; but I assumed he'd do it through policy matters, not associating himself with a nutjob who's going to lose by 20+ points.

to have to take a bite out of that shit sandwich? Endorsing Lonegan is as bad as having to endorse Sharon Ingle, Allen Keyes, or Christine (I'm not a witch) O'Donnell. Good luck with that!

You are right. I bet Christie was on the phone to Booker saying, "I can't believe I have to endorse this schmuck". Booker laughing saying, "I feel ya Chris."

Chris Christie is NO moderate, and Democrats who believe he is are being fooled! Stop it! He may not be a nutjob, but he is only slightly left of the Teabaggers. Only slightly!

Have some Dems/Libs/Progressives fallen and cracked their heads? Do they see what is happening to women in this country? Do they even REALIZE that Christie has solid history of women hating beliefs? And if he could implement them - he would?

He is just like every other Republican Male - only this one whines about paying 13K a year in property taxes for living in Mendham.

even though the legislature and popular opinion support it; his attack on teachers and unions; his comments about states' rights, blacks and the Civil Rights Movement; his disdain for the environment; his uber corporatism; his refusal to support the creation of jobs through the expansion of the NY-NJ transit system; his lies about education spending in the state...not to mention, his mean-spiritedness that many people have mistaken for forthrightness and straight talk. This man is duping people left and right...LITERALLY! That ANY Democrat would dare support this fool is beyond me. I don't understand it. I cannot understand why liberals, Democrats of any stripe could fall for this phony guy. But I tell you what: they had better wake up and wake up fast!

By the way, what's wrong with Buono? I've watched her speak. I researched on position on all issues that are important to me and my family, some of who still live in New Jersey and are very concerned about what Chris Christie is doing to public workers and to the state as a whole. She is a great woman who truly cares about the plight of New Jersey families.

I just don't understand. Democrats need to explain to me why they would even consider supporting someone like Chris Christie.

I wouldn't even give any consideration to vote for Christie. Lonegan is extremely disrespectful of working class and less fortunate Americans. He even flipped the middle finger toward journalist who exposed his corruptions in his campaign team. Why should New Jersey would give their consideration to vote for a man who would self-promote and push for interests with Koch brothers? Koch brothers really wants to own New Jersey after they are successful with Wisconsin and North Carolina.
