Lavrov, Kerry Call for Unbiased Probe into Alleged Syria Attack

MOSCOW, August 23 (RIA Novosti) – Moscow and Washington are demanding an “unbiased” investigation into the alleged nerve gas attack near Damascus, the Russian Foreign Ministry said after the top Russian and US diplomats discussed the issue in a phone conversation.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry expressed on Thursday “common interest in carrying out an unbiased investigation by UN experts who are currently in the country into the reports of the alleged use of chemical weapons near Damascus,” the statement said.

The Syrian opposition has accused the government of killing scores of people in a massive nerve gas attack near Damascus on Wednesday, with death toll estimates varying from 100 to more than 1,000 people. The Syrian government promptly denied the reports as baseless.

Lavrov said shortly after receiving the reports of the attack, Russia called on the Syrian government to cooperate with the UN team. "And it is up to the opposition to ensure the safe access of the mission to the scene of the alleged attack,” the statement said.

statement that there was no military solution made near the same time. There were a slue of articles - all quoting the reporter, who himself was hawkish.

my respect period. Everytime these Terrorists scream chemical weapons, the Obama Administration is right there to back these murderers up. They ignore the atrocities these payed for killers are committing on innocent people in Syria with these trumped up lies. I'm very serious about this. It shows an indifference to human life as far as I'm concerned and racist. I'm on the people of Syria side and against these Terrorists from Foreign countries. I definately don't like The Saudi Monarch or Qatar. That goes for Turkey too. I can't be no clearer than that. I just don't like the West's paid for killers. I don't like Netanyahu either or his Likud rightwing Government. Somebody in this country needs to guts to take these people on.
