Dog fighting crackdown nets 12 arrests in 4 states
Source: AP
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) A federal and state investigation into dog fighting and gambling has resulted in the arrest of 12 people from Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Texas.
U.S. Attorney George Beck said Monday that the 12 are charged with conducting an illegal gambling business and multiple dog fighting charges, including promoting dog fights. Additional defendants are being sought.
Federal and state officers served search warrants Friday in simultaneous raids in Alabama and Georgia. They seized 367 pit bulls in Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi. They also seized more than $500,000 in cash.
The Humane Society of the United States and the ASPCA are caring for the animals at undisclosed locations. ASPCA vice president Tim Rickey said the dogs are finally getting a loving hand from people who care for them.

Dog fighting is bad here in Southern California, as well.
I wish they'd nab all the bastards out here.

(22,651 posts)Dog fights, pay per view ring is in a tractor trailer. or in another country. Fight pits where dogs tear up other animals like a roman circus. buy a dog ready to fight from some of these huge breeders, full of steroids, throw it away after your weekend fight is over. people who put 2 dogs in a car trunk for a few hours and bet on the winner.
This is what happens when in most states animal abuse is a slap on the wrist or a misdemeanor charge.

You wish they would get rid of them in Massachusetts? Or did you mean en masse? Either way, not the dogs fault.

(15,220 posts)I know I'm dreaming, but Michael Vick never paid one cent to Best Friends Sanctuary which was responsible for the most part in rehabilitating the dogs that were involved in his fighting ring.
When this many animals are confiscated from these dog fighting rings, it puts a great deal of stress on local rescues. Rescuers must normally either step up quickly or the dogs will most likely be destroyed. There is a lot of expense involved when rescues DO step up, not to mention that each of these dogs that a rescue may take, take up a space that another needy dog could have had.
Dogs that can be rehabilitated require a lot of love, a lot of time, not to mention expensive vet bills. The dog fighters should be held accountable for these expenses. And I know that would never be paid, but it still should be part of the process.
They should stick assholes like these people with anything and everything possible.
