Crisis In Syria: U.S. Likely To Act Soon, AP Reports

Source: NPR

The Obama administration expects to formally declare Tuesday that Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime used chemical weapons against its own people last week, The Associated Press is reporting. Then, word of how the U.S. is responding — almost surely with some type of military action — is "likely to follow quickly," the AP adds.

The wire service says it's getting those tips from "two administration officials ... [who] insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the internal deliberations." NPR has not independently confirmed the news.

This follows Monday's stern words from Secretary of State John Kerry, who said that while evidence is still being collected, "despite the excuses and equivocations that some have manufactured, it is undeniable" that chemical weapons killed hundreds of Syrians and injured thousands more last week near Damascus. It is the Assad regime, Kerry said, that "maintains custody of these chemical weapons ... [and] has the capacity to do this with rockets."

The AP report also follows the shift we reported about Monday — from what had been a discussion of "whether" the U.S. and its allies would respond militarily to a discussion of "when" and "how."

Actually, the MAJORITY of Americans are opposed to this. Al Qaeda and other salafists Islamists might want the US to foolishly act against its interests by attacking Syria, but this is nothing to do with Shiite vs. salafists and takfiris.

IF Obama were to launch a war of aggression against Syria on the basis of a lie, then yes, that would constitute a war crime. But it hasn't happened. We should encourage that this not happen, because it would do irreparable harm to his presidency and to the Democratic Party, and most importantly, would seriously threaten US national security.

The rockets appear to be homemade - your 12 year old nephew has "the capacity to do this with rockets."

The evidence of authorship that has been released of this atrocity is flimsy to non-existent. This is another Niger yellowcake, and will end up with consequences for us that are even worse than Iraq, as this is a sectarian civil and religious war has already spread into to many countries. Fuel on the fire.

American forces are "ready" to launch strikes on Syria if President Barack Obama chooses to order an attack, US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel says.

"We have moved assets in place to be able to fulfil and comply with whatever option the president wishes to take," Mr Hagel told the BBC.

...

'We are prepared'

Mr Hagel said the US Department of Defence had provided President Obama with "all options for all contingencies".

"He has seen them, we are prepared," he told the BBC's Jon Sopel, adding: "We are ready to go."

like is censorship. Especially when someone calls me a traitor and I defend myself comparing it to Nazi Germany. Just don't go run around with alerts. I don'ty believe the Obama Administration about this chemical Attack. The same thing happened when the U.S. ignored Saddam Hussein's chemical attack when he was their Ally. You have the same players and propaganda perpetrated here, just to get the pretense for an invasion. I have never alerted anybody on this Forum, even the posters calling me names, but I am very familiar with these kind of Posters, who manipulate other posters and them hi tail it for an Alert, because they don't like being challenged. DU should not fall for these kind of Posters. I wasn't given any venue on here to defend myself, so I'm taking it right here. I'm not the coward on here.

"US formally declaring" is the equivalent of truth in the world today. Does not matter if it isn't true because the biggest bully is always truthful, right?

What happens after the rebels gain an upper hand and overthrow the government and take control? Who's going to end up running the country, the nice secular rebels who probably just want some sort of democracy (or whatever), or the battle hardened, organized and well funded jihadists?

After all, Assad himself is a TPTB puppet......but then again, so are the AQ/Salafi people as well.

And when you realize that the BushCo people have never been a fan of leftie groups, and that they've had a history of engaging in corrupt shenanigans.....well, the truth is, their end goal isn't to get rid of Assad. What it is, is not only to justify the Bush era B.S., but also to fuck over Pres. BHO as badly as they possibly can; remember Benghazi? That was *just* a warm up, I'm afraid......
