Italys first black cabinet minister Cécile Kyenge has been likened to a prostitute in the latest personal attack directed at her by a public figure.
Cristiano Za Garibaldi, the deputy mayor of the town of Diano Marina in the northern region of Liguria, implied in a post on his public Facebook profile that Ms Kyenge frequented a road in the area infamous for being used by prostitutes, many of whom are black.
Local media outlets picked up on the comments, and Mr Za Garibaldi was quick to back-pedal and apologise, putting the insult down to a stressful couple of months in which he was struggling to pay his taxes.
In a post on Sunday he wrote: I was wrong, I admit it and apologise. The statement
against the Minister Kyenge was in bad taste and offensive.

He's a Right Wing Politician (Mayor of a Town). . .
I read this and think -Ooooh boy! I wish Rand Paul could say that about First Lady Obama - tell us what he's REALLY thinking.
You just know it's on the tip of so many Republicant Tongues to say outright nasty things about minorities - but they have to stick to the 'coded' language.
Any minority in the USA can tell you - we hear their code words all of the time. But I would personally love it if this mayor's counterparts in the US (Rand Paul for example) would just come out and say it. They are chicken shits if they don't.

My husband said: It's not an apology. If was apologizing he would apogise BECAUSE she IS a woman of substance. He's still not 'bringing his respect'.
Bringing one's respect seems to be a Calabrese thing - but in his circle - you don't make a comment about a woman being a prosti unless she is one. He still didn't admit he told a lie. Make sense?

(18,124 posts)will never respect this minister only because she is black. No different than some of the rethugs and all teabaggers when it comes to the POTUS of this country. These type of people don't know what respect is and won't respect others outside their sphere of knowledge. Hell you can tell by their common thread of stupidity, ignorance and backwardness that they really don't have the capacity to think deep enough to find respect, for themselves or others. Yep makes a lot of sense.

(152,964 posts)while he has the sense to issue a real apology (and not a non-apology) it is disturbing to get glimpses of what some folk really, really think
