US, allies going around UN to justify Syria action

Source: Associated Press

UNITED NATIONS (AP) -- The U.S. and its allies are looking beyond the painfully divided U.N. Security Council to legitimize military action against Syria.

To do so, they must build a cohesive rationale and win broad international backing for a strike.

One key option is gaining backing from NATO, even persuading the military alliance to take the lead.

That helped the Clinton administration in the late 1990s build legitimacy for the Kosovo war, which the Security Council never sanctioned because of opposition from veto-wielding Russia.

4. Yes, there are many revelations of US spying, ...

... and yes, Obama has carried their water lately, but to suggest NSA spying is at his behest is disingenuous.

The NSA has been at it for decades, and they will continue no matter who is in the WH, no matter what Congress or the UN say. They have their own secret court that allows it, so they are above published law. They know where all the bodies are buried, so to speak, so they can hang that over anyone's head who wants to alter the current state of things.

The rules of National Security make telling the truth a crime. Just ask Sen. Wyden. He'd love to come clean, but doesn't want to wind up in the clink. The President has de facto approved spying, not perpetrated it. To me, a big difference. Karma has many stops to make along the way before arriving at him.

That said, the US attempting to sidestep the UN, again, is revolting. He is betraying many who voted for him. I, too, am mad and disappointed. I just needed to parse the outrage.

5. This would be illegal, immoral, and unjust.

A total violation of the promises that Obama made to the people of this country. I would be so utterly disappointed.

Let them do it. We are a bit busy right now. Your back yard, your turn. If they start using chemical weapons in Mexico, then it might be our business.
