Vietnam internet restrictions come into effect

A controversial law banning Vietnamese online users from discussing current affairs has come into effect.
The decree, known as Decree 72, says blogs and social websites should not be used to share news articles, but only personal information.
The law also requires foreign internet companies to keep their local servers inside Vietnam.
It has been criticised by internet companies and human rights groups, as well as the US government.

(3,963 posts)How can they enforce that? I wonder if something like: "I truly feel that the current Government sucks" Would count as personal information, I'm just saying how I feel.

The internet is not anonymous.
It happens here too when someone threatens the President online, The Secret Service shows up at their house.
IP addresses etc pinpoint all.

(2,397 posts)Just like China. Google does not search over here, its in Hong Kong. Its GoogleHK. Heavy filter on everything from politics to porn.
No Twit, FB, or CNN.
CNN was accessable in 08 when I was there--as that was how I saw Obama election coverage.
Not now.
But thank gawd I could log onto DU from China!
