De Blasio Has Enormous Lead Over Lhota, Poll Finds (+50 Points!)
Source: New York Times
With five weeks until Election Day, the race for New York City mayor is shaping up to be a landslide, with Bill de Blasio holding a 50-point lead over his Republican opponent, Joseph J. Lhota, in a poll released on Thursday by Quinnipiac University.
Mr. de Blasio, a Democrat, received the support of 71 percent of likely voters, compared with 21 percent for Mr. Lhota, the poll found. The Independence Party candidate, Adolfo Carrión Jr., received 2 percent.
The poll, conducted from Sept. 25 to Oct. 1, showed Mr. de Blasio, the citys public advocate, with a comfortable lead among white voters and an enormous one among blacks and Hispanics. Only 5 percent of likely voters remained undecided, and less than a tenth of those who favored Mr. de Blasio said there was a good chance they would change whom they supported.
These numbers say Public Advocate Bill de Blasios kids can start arguing over who gets the best bedroom in Gracie Mansion, Maurice Carroll, the director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, said.

(71,265 posts)city. He raised the toll on the bridge to $15 and they did not like that. It would be funny if he lost SI in the general.
Mr.Turnip
(645 posts)What percentage of the vote did Bloomberg get in SI last time again?
Honestly I think Lhota could have lost in the GOP primary had he been facing someone who wasn't so clownish, he just does not come off as a strong candidate.

(645 posts)Unless he like totally fudges the debates or I don't know strips naked while shooting up heroin in times square (and even in both those cases he'd probably still win by at least 20 points.) he's going to be going into office with a gigantic mandate, could help with pushing Albany to accept his tax increase.
Good to know that Lhota crying "MARXISM!" "SOCIALIST" "NICARAGUA" Hasn't done a damn thing to help him, he forgot this is goddamn New York City not some county in Alabama.

(50,254 posts)Two things may be in play
1)A lot of Lhota supporters(like Giuliani supporters in his first race against Dinkins)may not be willing to admit that they'll be backing a right-winger.
2)It's possible that the Times(a so-called "liberal" paper that really doesn't want NYC to have a truly progressive mayor)may be running this story to lull DeBlasio supporters into staying home on voting day....thus either increasing the chances for a Lhota upset OR drastically narrowing DeBlasio's margin of victory...which the Times would then use to try to "chasten" DeBlasio into caving and maintaining the status quo on budget and economic policy).
