Hot Mic Catches Rand Paul, Mitch McConnell Discussing Their Actual Government Shutdown Concerns
Source: Huffington Post
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) were caught on a hot mic Wednesday discussing talking-points for the shutdown by local news station WPSD 6.
"I just did CNN and I just go over and over again 'We're willing to compromise. We're willing to negotiate.' I think... I don't think they poll tested we won't negotiate. I think it's awful for Democrats to say that over and over again," Paul said.
"Yeah, I do too and I, and I just came back from that two hour meeting with them and that, and that was basically the same view privately as it was publicly," McConnell agreed.
Paul added, "I think if we keep saying, 'We wanted to defund it. We fought for that and that we're willing to compromise on this', I think they can't, we're gonna, I think... well, I know we don't want to be here, but we're gonna win this, I think."

This is what annoys me about the corporate media. They continue to play out this false equivalency narrative that both sides are to blame, yet here you have McConnell and Rand Paul cynically discussing their talking points and expressing surprise at his belief that Democrats did not "poll test" the stance that they are not going to negotiate over the debt ceiling and re-opening the Government. Also, McConnell's statement that President Obama told them privately what he has been saying publicly is also telling in that he really is telling them to their face behind closed doors that he will not horse trade over the debt ceiling and re-opening government.

(17,387 posts)Now, that is pretty contrived and diabolical to think that Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell are secretly helping Obama by trying to make themselves look really bad. This is almost as bad as the Ted Cruz is a secret liberal plant trying to destroy the tea Party from within meme that was circulated a few days ago.

Personally, I'd like to think President Obama holds all the cards but I've been burned before.

(28,151 posts)A scant 12 hours ago I was seeing on DU how Obama had a meeting with GOPers and it was clear he was going to CAVE!1! It was as good as done.
lolz The usual DU hysteria based on biased speculation. Oh but DU is the think tank of the Democratic Party, oh yes indeedy! Those folks at the top don't make a move without checking DU!
Seems your OP clearly demonstrates what a load of nonsense that is.

- THE CORPORATIONS.

(8,084 posts)confirmed that Our President is the same in private as he is in public.
The repugs can't fathom working with someone who tells the truth when no cameras are running and it's the same truth when the camera's are running.
They don't do that, so it really shocks them that Our President does.
I just wish they would stop "trying to win this" and go do their fucking job!!
