Rep. Gardner won’t corroborate higher premiums under Obamacare claim
Source: FOX 31 KDVR-TV
We were paying about $650 a month for our plan. And the plan thats most similar to replace it through our current provider goes up by 100 percent more, so its from $650 to $1,480.
Later that same day, Gardner appeared on CNNs Crossfire and told the exact same story.
Since then, FOX31 Denver has asked Gardner to provide a copy of the letter or to provide additional details about the policies.
Five times.
But Gardners office chose not to help corroborate his claims.

(15,696 posts)I hear there's a lot of that going on right now. I just saw a Humana commercial on MSNBC, claiming to give you a better deal than medicare. I smell desperation among the big insurance company 1%ers.

. . . . Starting next year, nearly all individual plans -- both in and out of the exchanges -- will be required to cover an array of "essential" services, including medication, maternity and mental health care. Many plans don't currently offer those benefits.
So what happens to the plans that don't meet the new minimum standards? They will likely disappear. A handful of existing plans will be grandfathered in, but the qualifying criteria for that is hard to meet: Members have to have been enrolled in the plan before the ACA passed in 2010, and the plan has to have maintained fairly steady co-pay, deductible and coverage rates until now.

The Congressman is comparing rotten apples with fresh oranges.
He may have had one of those meaningless, catastrophic plans that left him paying for a lot of essential coverage. Used to be a lot of those, and they were just a waste of money. A lot of people in the higher salary ranges took their chances, gambled on those plans. They could afford to pay out of pocket for the charges that weren't covered by their healthcare plan.
I have to say that my Medicare Plan co-pays for emergency care, hospital stays and other big expenses have skyrocketed. They are taking from Medicare coverage to pay for the ACA.
That is not going to work. A lot of older people will not be able to keep their homes and pay the co-pays. That is really bad news because Social Security is really very little when you think in terms of a co-pay for a hospital stay of over $5,000 and also banks are paying no interest. Seniors are between a rock and a hard place already. That is not a good development. I think it is probably due to the new rules about compensating caregivers (not insurance companies) for their work. I'm with Kaiser.

Cory Gardner isn't one of them, but
"n 2009, the median wealth of a U.S. House member stood at $765,010, up from $645,503 in 2008. The median wealth of a U.S. senator was nearly $2.38 million, up from $2.27 million in 2008. That means the average U.S. House member was nearly 8 times wealthier than the median American family in 2009, and the average U.S. senator was nearly 25 times wealthier than the median American family."

He had "low" cost insurance paid for by taxpayers, now he has to go on the open market like everyone else, so even if his payment did go up, that's the same payment anyone else with his income would be paying. They are a bunch of babies, and I think they have way to many perks to begin with, now at least they are just like the rest of the country and they don't like that.

(32,640 posts)go with a higher priced plan on the DC exchange - the one that congress critters need to sign up through.
Is he including it in his current premium, and leaving it out of the one he anticipates paying?

(2,149 posts)My understanding is that if you are covered by your employer, and the plan meets certain guidelines, you cannot apply for the ACA nor receive the subsidy.

(4,438 posts)What's up with that? He doesn't deserve to pay any less than the rest of the people making $175,000 annually. He only works 100 some days a year and does nothing but waste our tax dollars and time when he's there...if he shows up. He has a retirement package that goes to his wife/significant other if he dies or is convicted of a crime. It's bullshit. Also, his healthcare plan is a hell of lot better than almost everyone else's.
