Obama, Biden take a rare stroll for lunch

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden are stepping out of the White House on a surprise and rare off-campus stroll to grab lunch at a neighborhood eatery and draw attention to the fourth day of the government shutdown.

Obama and Biden, in shirt sleeves, chose a balmy fall day to wander away from the White House, eliciting gasps from tourists. People shouted "Oh, my God!" and "Go Barack!"

The president used the opportunity to once again make a case for the Republican-controlled House to pass a short-term spending measure that would reopen the government without strings attached.

"This shutdown could be over today," he said. "We know there are votes for it in the House." Obama reacted to a news report that quoted an anonymous senior administration official as saying that the White House was "winning" in the clash over the shutdown, and that the length of the shutdown "doesn't really matter to us."

My two original updates, in reverse order, as it was happening:

-----

Looks like they were walking to 'Taylor Gourmet.' An Italian deli in DC.

Nearly a mile from the White House, East but not directly towards the Capitol.

Bet you big money the orange one was watching teevee nervously while sucking down yet another scotch.

-----

Might be a false alarm, but are we seeing a 'West Wing' TV show moment coming?

Alex Wagner and crew just showed the live footage.

One can hope...

He's a douche in the series. Very Boehner-esque (or Newt). Basically, the President and Speaker had a deal to cut 1% of the federal budget and, during their final meeting to push a CR, the Speaker announces he's now asking for a 3% reduction. So, they shut the government down. The Speaker is winning the media war, but then President Bartlet decides to walk to the Capitol to meet with the Speaker. Eventually, the Speaker's doucheness works against him because he keeps the President waiting too long and Bartlet leaves the Capitol.

At the end of the episode, the two reach a deal ... that was even more favorable to the WH than the original 1% cut, I believe.

That's funny. McConnell(R) and Paul(R) were caught saying the same thing.

"I think if we keep saying 'We wanted to defund it. We fought for that but now we're willing to compromise on this,' I think they can't -- we're gonna, I think -- well I know we don't want to be here, but we're gonna win this I think," Rand Paul said.

And Boner is crying about an anonymous source from the White House who supposedly said something similar!?! WTF? The hypocrisy! They are obviously trying to overshadow the turtle and the twerp's hot mic moment.

You are correct, pass a damn clean cr bill.

I know a few elder gentlemen (late 70s & early 80s) who x-country ski for miles regularly, a walk on a nice day looks like a piece of cake.

Good for them.

I am 74 and could do it. Just because someone is in his/her 70s doesn't mean they should be wheelchair bound. I sense you are younger, but remember you will be older one day.
