Tom Corbett, Pennsylvania GOP Governor, Compares Gay Marriage To Incest

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Republican Gov. Tom Corbett compared the marriage of same-sex couples to the marriage of a brother and sister during an appearance on a Friday morning TV news show.

The Pennsylvania governor was on WHP-TV in Harrisburg speaking about gay marriage when an anchor asked about a statement his lawyers made in a recent court filing, comparing the marriage of gay couples to the marriage of children because neither can legally marry in the state.

"It was an inappropriate analogy, you know," Corbett said. "I think a much better analogy would have been brother and sister, don't you?"

Corbett, a lawyer, former federal prosecutor and state attorney general, also said he does not think a pending legal challenge to Pennsylvania's ban on same-sex marriage belongs in federal court.

It looks like Gov. Tom Corbett, once called "the most endangered governor in the county," has turned the tide of overwhelmingly negative public opinion after an appearance on a Harrisburg-area news channel, that observers are praising as "Santorumesque."

On CBS-21's recurring "Ask the Governor" segment, Corbett cleverly downplayed remarks his lawyers had previously made that compared the union of consenting, adult homosexuals to two 12 year olds getting married. "A much better analogy would be brother and sister," the governor quipped.

The remark, comparing gay marriage with an insane, deviant form of incestual union, was followed by Corbett's endearing, mischevious smile. He knew he'd soon be on the sort viral carpet ride that rocketed Rick Santorum's senate reelection hopes gloriously into the sun.
