Feminist Charis Books and More slammed with anti-gay graffiti

One of the oldest feminist bookstores in the nation was hit with anti-gay graffiti the night it held a standing room only literary event as part of its "Stride into Pride" for Atlanta Pride activities.

Lesbian-owned Charis Books & More, which turns 39 in November and is one of the last remaining feminist bookstores in North America, had anti-gay and anti-women graffiti spray painted on the side of its building Thursday night after a successful literary event, "Stride Into Pride: Atlanta Literary All Star Showcase."

"Last night we had a full house, standing room only, and at various times the crowd spilled out into the parking lot," said Elizabeth Anderson, executive director of Charis Circle, the nonprofit arm of Charis Books & More.

The APD report states that Officer Brian Sharpe, the LGBT liaison, was notified. Look said she found the report placed in the door when she came into work this morning and she spoke with Sharpe this morning.

The only positive thought that I have is that we now live in a world in which Atlanta's police department has an LGBT liaison officer.

6. That may have been an attempt to recreate the spelling error

of the cows in the Chik-fil-A commercials.

(mind you, the people who own that company probably think "filet" is really spelled that way).

5. Sort of like the bigoted kid in one of the "Porky's" sequels

who was trying to bait the new Jewish kid in school by calling him a "kite". The Jewish kid ended up having to tell the would-be antisemite how the slur was actually spelled(they became friends later, which teaches us...something, but I'm not sure what).

4. It's probably just a bunch of young teens .. and stupid at that. What with the education they

receiving. This act really doesn't play into any type of mad hysteria over lesbians. A little graffiti only strengthens this book store's resolve. Besides you don't mess with lesbians / feminists in Atlanta .. oh hell no.
