Argentina's president to take month off for brain hematoma.

Source: Yahoo News / Reuters

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) - Argentine President Cristina Fernandez has been told by doctors to take a month off because of a subdural hematoma on her brain, forcing her to abandon campaigning for important congressional elections taking place later this month.

The 60-year-old president suffered trauma to the brain in August and had been given the all-clear at the time, her spokesman Alfredo Scoccimarro said, without elaborating.

Vice President Amado Boudou cut short a journey to France to return to Argentina and take over the president's duties.

Fernandez was in full campaign swing for congressional elections on October 27. Recent polls have indicated the government could lose control of Congress, an outcome that would deprive Fernandez of the chance of introducing a constitutional reform that would allow her to run for a third term in 2015.

She looks really good for her age, especially considering her health problems.

other than her support for gay rights. I remember that she had a disagreement with the current Pope about it when he was living in Argentina.

as was her late husband, Nestor Kirchner, who was tortured while imprisoned by the US-supported, Kissinger-advised military dictatorship which murdered over 30,000 people, many of them being thrown out of airplanes over the ocean, or rivers.

They also went as far as infiltrating protesters, and arresting them in order to torture and murder them, as well, including French nuns, who protested the theft of infants born in prison where their mothers were being tortured.

Cristina's husband opened the door trials for the military murderers and torturers, and kidnappers, after George H. W. Bush's friend, the impeached, illegal arms-trading Carlos Menem mandated impunity for Argentinian war criminals.

During both their administrations these right-wing monsters have been rounded up, tried, and sent where they should have been long ago.

The world should thank them for that.

I am woefully ignorant about South American history. One of these days, I'm going to get around to fixing that.

BUENOS AIRES, Oct 7 (Reuters) - Argentine President Cristina Fernandez will undergo surgery on Tuesday relating to a subdural hematoma, or blood on the brain, her doctors said on Monday.

The president's condition may have come from hitting her head during a fall she took in August, although she was cleared by her doctors at the time, a presidential spokesman said.

Oct 8 (Reuters) - Argentine President Cristina Fernandez had surgery on Tuesday to remove blood from the surface of her brain, sidelining her three weeks ahead of a key mid-term election and at the apex of a rancorous court battle with the nation's "holdout" creditors.

The president's condition, described as a subdural hematoma, came from hitting her head in a fall in August. The operation, from which she is expected to fully recover, involves draining blood that has pooled between the brain and the skull.
