N. Korean military postures for war against U.S. nuclear-powered carrier

SEOUL, Oct. 8 (Yonhap) -- All North Korean troops have been placed on an emergency posture to launch operations any time against U.S.-led defense drills off the peninsula, the communist nation's state news agency reported Tuesday.
The General Staff of the Korean People's Army took issue in particular with the deployment of the USS George Washington, a nuclear-powered carrier, for the joint exercises with South Korea and Japan.
"This clearly proves that the remarks of such high-ranking officials of the U.S. Obama administration as the secretary of state that the U.S. neither pursues a hostile policy towards the DPRK (North Korea) nor has the will to attack it are sheer lies," an unnamed spokesman for the military body said in an English-version statement, according to the Korean Central News Agency.
In this connection, it added, the entire North Korean military received an "emergency order from its supreme command to re-examine the operation plans already ratified by it and keep themselves fully ready to promptly launch operations any time, watching with high vigilance every move of the U.S. and Japanese aggressors and the puppet forces."

I guess North Korea felt it wasn't getting enough attention during the whole US Gov't shutdown crisis.

Just after the reopened the factories in Kaesong. Personally I think South Korea should have told them tough luck until they were really ready to deal. There won't be another joint exercise mostly likely until the spring. This is the usual foaming at the mouth bullshit coming from North Korea.
If we really wanted to punish them we'd ship John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Ted Cruz, Mitch McConnell, Marco Rubio, and Michelle Bachmann over there and make them listen to their ranting and ravings for a few weeks.
Edit: Hattip to Beacool, I forgot Bachmann.

(13,447 posts)One news guy on twitter said last night that this is coming right after they recieved an aid shipment from Mongolia.
So at least North Korea is consistant: ratcheting up the rhetoric just to get more food and aid.

(19,276 posts)Fuck, they'd be lucky to get anything within 100 miles of it before being blown out of the sky, and the George Washington likely has enough firepower onboard (and the jets to deliver it) to turn most of their military installations to rubble.
And that's assuming she doesn't have a nuclear-armed escort sub with her (which she probably does).
