Samsung Loses Bid for Obama Veto of Apple-Won Import Ban

Samsung Electronics Co. can’t import some smartphones and tablet computers into the U.S. after President Barack Obama decided not to veto a ban won by Apple Inc. in a patent-infringement dispute.
“After carefully weighing policy considerations, including the impact on consumers and competition, advice from agencies, and information from interested parties, I have decided to allow” the import ban, Obama’s designee, U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman, said in a statement today.
The Korean company asked Obama to overturn the ban ordered by the U.S. International Trade Commission on public policy grounds -- the same relief the president gave Apple in August from an order barring imports of the iPhone 4S. Samsung can now seek a delay from a U.S. appeals court.
Forcing Samsung to change its designs is a victory for Apple. The iPhone maker says it keeps and entices new customers by contrasting the look and ease of its devices with other manufacturers, like Samsung or HTC Corp. In appeals-court arguments, Apple accused Samsung of putting a new name on some handsets without making any changes.

There are 16x more jobs held in foreign countries than the US.
Trying to say that 300,000 jobs creating iOS apps is ridiculous. The number of app creators making enough money for it to not be 'hobby' is thousands of times less than that number.
I am not at all surprised by this ruling as it fits with American Exceptionalism as usual. 
So hard to tell in this medium especially with so many Apple fans. 
so they keep patenting things that Android phones already have in their system. HTC had to disable the ability to click on a phone number and have it dial for you or something like that, but I have my phone rooted and running a custom ROM so mine works. 
That's what I love about Android. If you're willing to learn a bit you can really customize your phone. I switch up the look every so often when I get bored with it.
I'll probably keep the HTC Rezound I have now for a few more years (unless it breaks) but I looked at the Galaxy S 3 when I had to replace my phone and it's a really nice phone. Haven't checked into the GS4. But the Galaxy is definitely one of the phones I'll look at first when I need a new one.
But really, patenting things already in existence by a competitor is a really immature way to get your way. I use a Mac desktop for work but I will probably build a pc when my MacPro dies. It's much cheaper and Avid is dual platform now and I don't like FCP anyway. The only way I'll stay on Mac is if I feel I still need to use FCP7, but I'll probably buy used again since Apple overprices their stuff.
who started the lawsuits, how many Apple has done, and the results across the globe?
In most cases, either both were equally penalized (as in S. Korea), they were thrown out (look at the UK), or now here in the US, Apple is given favoritism by our very own 'impartial' trade organization.
