Former U.S. Sen. Rod Grams dies of cancer at age 65

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune

Rod Grams, the former television anchor who rose to represent Minnesota in the U.S. House and Senate, has died, a friend said Wednesday. Grams was 65.

“Senator Rod Grams passed away at 11:45 last night, at home in Crown MN, wife, Chris, at his side,” Kent Kaiser said in a tweet sent shortly after 9 a.m.

Grams had battled cancer for some time and had gone through several courses of chemotherapy treatments, Kaiser said. Grams stopped the treatments when they appeared unable to halt the spread of the disease, Kaiser added.

Grams was a longtime anchor for KMSP-TV in the Twin Cities and a homebuilder when he entered politics as a Republican candidate in the 1992 campaign.

He was not a "Tea Party" Republican - he was a good man. With the exception of Wing-Nut Michelle Bachmann, many Republicans from MN are moderate (would even be considered Democrats if they lived in the South). Rest In Peace Rod Grams. Thank you for your service.
