President Obama nominates Yellen as first woman to lead Fed

President Barack Obama nominated Janet Yellen on Wednesday as the next head of the Federal Reserve, positioning her to become the first woman to head the central bank in its 100-year history.
Currently vice chair of the Fed, Yellen would succeed Ben Bernanke when his eight-year tenure ends in January.
Flanked by Yellen and Bernanke at a news conference to announce his choice, Obama called Yellen a "proven leader" and "exceptionally qualified for this role."
