GOP unity frays, frustration builds
Source: politico.com
A reality is beginning to dawn on and eat away at many House Republicans: They arent at all sure of their party's strategy to re-open government and lift the debt ceiling. After forcing leadership to pick a fight it didnt want to pick, sitting through hours of meetings with lots of internal hand-wringing and failing to force Democrats to negotiate, the path to avoid a prolonged government shutdown and the first debt default in American history is completely uncertain.
If anybody tells you its clear to anybody let me know, said Rep. Pete Sessions of Texas, the chairman of the Rules Committee and a member of Republican leadership. Ill call them collect.

(5,029 posts)The basic text of my email was one of displeasure with his parties handling of the shutdown.
This was the response I recieved.......
"Thank you for taking the time to contact me, please be advised due to the government shutdown, my office is currently closed. My office will respond to your concerns or resume work on your case as soon as the office reopens. In the interim, if you would like to leave a comment for me, you may still do so at 1-866-630-7106 (within Florida) or 202-224-3041."
Sincerely,
U.S. Senator Marco Rubio
Really Mr. Rubio, then why are you still getting a paycheck, Are you or are you not at work? You are paid to represent the people of Florida and as a whole the United States of America.

(3,123 posts)As much as they say they want to hear from the voters who put them in office, they turn a deaf ear when a crisis hits. Sad.

(5,029 posts)I had an interesting email conversation with a journalist at the Tampa Bay times on the subject. I sent an email to all the political writers there and this gentleman was the only one to reply. I will not go into detail. However I think he understands the plight of the haves and have nots. Hopefully we will some some good journalism coming out him.

(5,029 posts)I had an interesting discussion via email last night with a Tampa Bay Times Journalist regarding this matter. I think they are all going to do whatever they are going to do regardless of what their constituents want.
Pretty convenient for them to have an an excuse to say, we do not give a rats ass what you think or what you want, fuck you little people, you do not matter!

BTW-CAN you still call collect?
awoke_in_2003
(34,582 posts)but don't accept collect calls from jail. Many jails and prisons are using a service that will charge your phone $10 or more for that call. Not only do they profit off the labor of their inmates, they profit off of their calls home.

(1,397 posts)Military strategy from ages and ages ago all the way to the present teaches a few lessons the GOTP never learned.
1. When you start a war, have a clearly-defined, achievable objective that everyone understands.
2. Have a clear way out in case everything turns to shit.
