Brown signs bill to let nurse-practitioners, others perform abortions

SACRAMENTO -- California women will have more access to abortion after Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill Wednesday that allows nurse practitioners and other non-physicians to perform the procedure during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Assemblywoman Toni Atkins (D-San Diego) introduced the measure because of concern that there are not enough physicians, especially in rural areas, to meet the needs of women who desire an abortion.

“Timely access to reproductive health services is critical to women’s health,” Atkins said in a statement. “AB 154 will ensure that no woman has to travel excessively long distances or wait for long periods in order to obtain an early abortion."

The measure was one of seven bills signed by the governor Wednesday that involved women’s health, including legislation to promote breastfeeding.

I have worked in many women's clinics where abortions were performed and I never once sent a patient to the ER. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but it happens rarely.

Kinda' like Porterhouse prime steak and veggies plus Chocolate Malt verses 3 day old 50 cent hotdog with 1/2 filled can of coke with cigarette butt in it.

In those days, I think VT was the only state in the NE that allowed PAs to do first trimester abortions.

This makes sense. In a state as big as CA it is essential.

Thank god for nurse practioners!

California is doing amazing things, now that the GOP can't block them at every turn.

And yes, I know I've posted something like this more than once, but it is true here as it was before.
