Arizona's GOP Gov: Don't Defund Obamacare, We Need The Money

Source: TPM

DYLAN SCOTT – OCTOBER 10, 2013, 12:12 PM EDT

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) said Wednesday that she opposed the congressional Republican effort to defund Obamacare, saying that it would be a blow to the state's budget.

“The bottom line is we need that money in our economy to save rural hospitals and jobs in the rural areas,” Brewer said, according to the Arizona Daily Star. “It’s all about jobs and getting back federal dollars that our taxpayers have paid to the federal government, to bring them home.”

Arizona is one of several Republican-led states to accept the law's Medicaid expansion. The federal government covers 100 percent of the costs of the expansion for the first three years and never less than 90 percent after that. That funding is unaffected by the shutdown, but it would presumably be lost if the GOP actually succeeded in its push to defund the entire law.

If the state didn't receive that federal money, Brewer said, "we will be faced with a calamity."

back when, are now having an effect on their tourism. I didn't think anyone was really serious about that, but apparently they were. Brewer, and other GOP governors still have a state to run, despite their crazy "allies" on Capitol Hill.

I can't figure out these Republicans. They say they are not accepting federal dollars, then they are...unless they are Scott Walker and then he runs the whole state into the toilet to look like he's taking no money. Except from corporate donors.

and the boycott against AZ with the 'papers please' law has had an effect on the tourism here. I have to say - Brewer's stand on healthcare in this state was a nice welcomed bit of sanity against the rednecks here. And in the town I live in, the city sales tax is 8 %!

informed they won't get what they think under default. The scenario described here is what the GOP wants:

Debt Ceiling: 'Chaotic' choices on 100 million payments

By Jeanne Sahadi - January 7, 2013

If Congress doesn't raise the debt ceiling soon, the Treasury Department will be forced to make drastic, no-win decisions on how to honor tens of millions of legally owed payments every month...

Prioritizing interest payments means Treasury must choose from more than 100 million monthly payments and would not be able to pay 40% of the dollars owed...

Rand Paul says it can be framed as a 'reasonable idea' as Tom Coburn looks forward to default to face a 'managed catastrophe.'

A 'managed catastrophe' by these gangsters? We're officially in hell!

Why the people of the USA aren't in the offices of these gangsters right now, proves the power of media. They will blame Obama, the poor, the disabled, and any of the 'others' instead of the GOP.

by the Federal Gov. And Medicaid, Medicare if people qualify is also paid by the Federal Gov.

Guess old Jan better take a look at her states books and see just what they have been spending Federal Medicaid money on (what calamity? supposed to be non-profit), if it wasn't healthcare for those who qualify.

Maybe the president should request an apology from Brewer first!

And of course Free Republic and the right wing blogs are already turning away from Brewer 3 years after SB 1070 prompted "Stand with Arizona" campaigns on social media. Speaking of freeperville, to get an idea of how nutty that site is, one freeper wrote in the thread about this story that former Arizona US Senator Barry Goldwater, otherwise known as "Mr. Conservative", was "pretty RINO’y/GOP-ey and squishy about alot of things" and linked to Goldwater's Wikipedia page. Yep, a freeper really called Barry Goldwater a RINO!

And another freeper said: "She’s not only willing to SELL THE U.S. CONSTITUTION OUT FOR MONEY, she’s PROUD OF IT!" Yep, the freeper called Brewer a whore.

And another: "May you burn in Hell you pathetic whining RINO b*tch!" (But that poster must loooooove writing "Democrat War on Women" on "Bill Maher said something meeeeeean to Sarah Palin" threads!)
