Fitch: U.S. AAA rating on watch over debt debate

Oct. 15, 2013, 4:59 p.m. EDT

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Fitch Ratings put its AAA credit rating of the U.S. on negative watch Tuesday, citing the prolonged congressional negotiations over a hike to the borrowing limit. The U.S. is set to hit its debt ceiling on Thursday without a deal to increase its ability to borrow. "The prolonged negotiations over raising the debt ceiling (following the episode in August 2011) risks undermining confidence in the role of the U.S.dollar as the preeminent global reserve currency, by casting doubt over the full faith and credit of the U.S," the agency said in a statement. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had warned that a rating downgrade could come as soon as Tuesday.

3. All Obama and the Democrats have to do is give the Tea Party what they want. Or else.

It's clearly Obama's fault.

Now, if that's not economic terrorism, I don't know what is.

4. And this at a time when we have troops fighting for their lives in Afghanistan.

The troops look to home for stability and leadership. For support and to leaders who defend the Constitution and the well being of America. They see the Republicans undermining the country and everything it's always stood for. The tea party does not support the troops abroad, the veterans at home, or our country STILL at war. A war that ever republican in Washington wanted in 2001. Shame on these sorry un-American political conserva-terrorists, for giving Aid and comfort to the enemy in a time of war. History...if America has one, will not look kindly on this latest GOP attack on the USA.

President Obama has been careful to avoid this situation in the past by working out last minute deals with these lunatics. This time though he and the Dems have said enough is enough. But clearly this is risky business.

Previously the economy was more fragile and the issues were not as cut and dry and there was more room for compromise... imo.
